Liquid Nitrogen and Swimming Pools Don't Mix

#1 Postby TexasStooge » Sat Mar 03, 2007 11:17 am

What's dumb? Dumping liquid nitrogen in a hotel swimming pool, although the fog effect looks cool though.
What's dumber? Jumping in the pool that recently had liquid nitrogen dumped in.

I've eaten ice cream that was frozen by liquid nitrogen. Really good stuff. It's called Saturnian Ice Cream because liquid nitrogen is at -320 degrees Fahrenheit, the same as Saturn's atmosphere.

I don’t think that’s dumb. It was actually a very cool experiment, if you ask me. Besides, that was a very small amount of liquid nitrogen that was dumped into the pool, which, when compared to it, is huge and would have a very diminutive affect on the water temperature. A good analogy would be dumping buckets of ice into the Gulf of Mexico and expecting it to cool.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. The water temperature probably wasn't that much different after the liquid N[sub]2[/sub] was added. That was a good analogy, calamity.

Oh hell yeah, I've had that, it's nice as hell, and the advantage is that it can be made to order. When I had it we made it ourselves at university, but I'm pretty sure someone would charge a huge amount for it in a resturant.
