The Rabbit and the eggs are symbolic. They stand for the spring fertility of the planet and its inhabitants. Its a tradition that has stretched on for centuries uncounted. I think they are remnants of the pagan religions which dominated Europe prior to conversion....sort of like what we now know as the Christmas tree.

Just heard a blip on the news concerning the "Easter Bunny" and apparently they want to change the name to something more accepting of other religions. "Holiday Bunny"?

LOL!!

In my opinion that is rather redundant, since the word "Easter" originates from an older Norse language. It was originally known as Ostara (or Eostre) and was a celebration of Spring. If people want to create things like a "holiday bunny", it seems they would take the time to learn where our holidays and traditions come from. Many cultures share something like Easter.

Word origins are a sort of hobby of mine.

Happy Easter everyone! Cookiely, thanks for the link. And most of all, thank you Jesus for all you have done in my life, even though I often fall short of your glory. And thanks for saving us sinners. Okay well, dont eat too much tomorrow and if you all are good boys and girls the Easter bunny will come see you. I just called him and hes on the way! 8-)
