Some of you probably remember Kenneth Hinson. He was arrested last year after two teens accused him of locking them in a dungeon and raping them. The dungeon was found on his property. He maintained that he was innocent and that the sex with the 17-year-olds was consensual, but the case was considered a cakewalk for the prosecution. Well, the jury apparently agreed with Hinson. This happened near me and everyone is in a state of disbelief.

And I wouldn't consider that open and shut either if he keeps the same lawyer.

Maybe the facts that were admitted into evidence, before the jury weren't as much of a slamdunk, as the prosecution and media led us to believe. You couldn't get him for statutory either, because according to this link, the age of consent for females in SC is 14 (16 for males).

My sister once sat jury duty on a capital murder (death penalty) case here in Houston. Once the case was over (yes, he was sentenced to death) and she was able to talk about it, I realized that what you hear in the press, and what actually happens in a court case are two vastly different animals. No longer will I be swayed either way by what some reporter has to say about anything. The only people who know the truth are the perp and the victim(s); and the only people who know what happened on a jury are those who participated. Please don't think I'm taking the perp's side in this case, just that I don't trust the media for reporting everything that happens in a courtroom.

That happened here.... Steven Avery was acquitted on rape charges that happened in the early 80s... NOW........
He is guilty of killing Teresa Halbach, a freelance photograher for AutoTrader.com. http://www.wfrv.com ....
Everything in the area of Teresa's Death is a small hometown community... I wento UWGB with Teresa and saw her in the halls frequently. There are still blue ribbons around those communities and the murder occurred on Oct 31, 2005.

I wonder what the verdict would have been if the jury was aware that he had a previous conviction for the rape of a twelve year old.

I'm sure it would have affected the jury's opinion, which is precisely why this type of information is generally not transmitted to juries. They're judging his guilt on this particular crime, not previous ones for which he served his time.
