Airshow Plane Crashes

#1 Postby brunota2003 » Thu May 03, 2007 3:48 pm

Well, another airshow plane has crashed...At approximently 2:15 P.M. EDT, a plane enroute to the Cherry Point Airshow (Friday Night through Sunday) crashed in the SouthWestern portion of Havelock. Initial reports are still sketchy, but it has been confirmed that it was a prop plane (showed a pic of one on local news, not sure what it was though) that was supposed to be part of the static display here. Thankfully, no one was killed. One crew member was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital and the other 4 onboard were deemed "Walking Wounded", no one on the ground was hurt. The plane JUST missed a local substation, which houses three different electric companies' power boxes. Most of Havelock is out of power at this time, and Pedro (our SAR Bird) has been flying to and from the crash scene constantly with a bucket attached to dump water on the fire. At this time, the fire is the main concern, because it has been so dry, but the fire department is on scene and as of 4:05 PM were digging a trench around the fire to contain it; however, as of 4:40 he [Pedro] just flew by again with no bucket, so they must of gotten it under control. This is all about a mile or so from my house, I was at school and heard the rumble as the plane hit the ground, thought it was thunder. If I can, I will try to get a picture of Pedro, no guarentees though because of the trees.

Alright, new information in, including the type of plane:

Breaking News: Plane Crash
Craven - 5/3/2007
A small plane crashed in Havelock at approximately 2:15 p.m. Thursday.

It was a civilian plane on its way to Cherry Point to be a static display at the Air Show this weekend.

There were five people onboard, all civilians.

Public Information at Cherry Point says four of them are okay and walking, and the fifth was airlifted to Pitt Memorial.

The plane was a Grumman US 2B based in Chesapeake, Virginia.

As the plane was going down, it tore down transmission lines on Creek Drive, on Havelock, which led to power outages across Havelock and western Carteret County.

Yea, 500 still without power (after 1000's were) and they wont have power until after the entire fire is put out, so the crews can get back to the lines...
