The Window

#1 Postby Berwick Bay » Fri Sep 07, 2007 5:04 pm

Its 4:42 PM
And its raining outside.
Slow riders careful,
Slower still at home
Waiting to get out.
Back out to meet one of the daughters
And bring her in.
The other is far away,
In another world of her own making.
Working, then raining, then feeling,
then driving the other away.

Pausing, I look back through this window
Looking at the rain and the people here,
But their not real anymore.
I can't find myself inside this window
I never could, and knew I never would.
I gently close the window and shut out the storm.
Its quiet now, and storms will continue to come.
But I won't dwell on them,
Simply watch them, and let them roll in and over me.
Its good to let it go.
I can't look out and through this window anymore,
And thats because it really is raining,
And I've just picked up one girl,
But the other is so very far away.

Did you write this? It is beautiful! Is it talking about coming out of depression? I apologize if I've interpreted it wrong. I can feel the emoption coming from it very well! Thank you for sharing!

I'm glad you enjoyed it Betty. Yes I wrote it down quickly ( in about 10-15 minutes) yesterday afternoon, immediately upon coming home. Its the first poem that I've written in about 6-8 weeks now. Its very raw, but I see within it the seeds of something that might be pretty good. I think that I'll take time this weekend to refine it some. Its not explicitly about depression, but it comes from tough personal experiences with my own family. I would say that it basically about the real things in life, dealing and accepting them. Perhaps turning away from other escapes and dealing with our own reality. I don't want to spell it out to specifically. I think that I may want to write poetry from my own experiences which however might be broad enough so that everyone can read something of their own lives within them. Thank you Betty for responding.
