Texas UFO sighting
DALLAS, Texas, January 15, 2008 (NBC) -- Dozens of Texas residents want to know what they recently saw in the skies above Stephenville.
Lee Roy Gaitan, an Erath County constable, said he noticed a strange light outside his home near Stephenville about an hour after sunset last Tuesday.
"I saw two red glows," Gaitan said. "They glowed, and then they kind of faded and glowed again. And I looked again. I thought, 'That's just not right.'"
When his 8-year-old son Ryan came outside, the red glow had turned bright white.
"It looked faster than a jet," Ryan Gaitan said.
Lee Roy Gaitan said he saw the lights move around in the sky. "They were really, really bright," he said. Gaitan and his son said the lights jetted across the sky. "What was so astonishing was the speed that this thing took off," Gaitan said. "I mean, it took off so fast."
Dozens of others out in the area, including a pilot, a teacher and business owners, reported seeing the same thing. The U.S. Air Force said it had no planes in the area that night.
"It wasn't an airplane," Gaitan said. "It wasn't a meteor, because it wouldn't have been bouncing around. It wasn't just one light." He said the lights were like nothing on Earth. "I had never seen anything like that -- never," Gaitan said.
A major at the Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth suggested the incident might have been an illusion caused by the sunset and commercial jetliners.
The phenomenon has attracted the attention of UFO buffs, who plan to descend on Stephenville on Saturday.

Texas Town Residents Report UFO Sighting
January 14, 2008 9:54 p.m. EST
Isabelle Duerme - AHN News Writer
Stephenville, TX (AHN) - Residents of a Texas community found themselves stunned by a celestial scene involving what many believe was a UFO.
Eyewitness accounts told of a large, silent, object with flashing lights, with residents insisting that it was lower to the ground than an airplane.
"People wonder what in the world it is because this is the Bible Belt, and everyone is afraid it's the end of times," explained Steve Allen, a freight company owner and pilot. He insisted that the thing he saw, a mile long and half a mile wide, was "positively, absolutely nothing from these parts."
Local officials insisted that there had to be a logical explanation to the sighting - an argument that was trashed by residents who insisted that the object's behavior of changing light configurations was nothing like that of a plane.
Residents from other towns also insisted on spotting the object over several weeks, and have given accounts that were similar to those being given by Stephenville citizens.
"You heard about bug bass or big buck in the area, but this is a different deal" said Ricky Sorrells, whose friends teased him when he came forward after others revealed they saw the object. "It feels good to hear that other people saw something, because that means I'm not crazy."
A supporting AP article reported that while a Joint Reserve Base Naval Air Station official confirmed that there were no plans deployed to that area during the night of Jan. 8, Major Karl Lewis insisted that the object must have been an illusion caused by airplane lights, which he described to glow much brighter during sunset.
"I'm 90 percent sure this was an airliner," said Maj. Lewis.
Texas is one of the states with the most reported UFO sightings, at about 200 per month. Other states are California and Colorado.

And in THAT case, if they're apparently living in a super-advanced- megasutopia, why would they wanna go sight seeing HERE?
I think there is life on other planets. In fact, I read that two planets nearly identical to Earth have been discovered. But I highly doubt they're super-crazy intellignet or they care about us.

yall are gonna call me crazy, but I think it could have been a UFO. By definition, it was unidentified, flying, and it was an object. From the news, this object was 1 mile long, What airliner is one mile long. There were 50 people that perceived the same thing. Not to mention, this was in Texas, Texans are people on their word, in most cases. The people were not related, probably don't know each other. The military said they don't have anything flying in the area. What are the chances?

I agree, you can't say you don't believe in UFO's. They exist. It's not like they're guaranteed aliens, they're unidentified flying objects. I've always kinda had an interest in them.

The military said they dont have anything in the area, correct. You really think they are gonna come out and say "Oh, that was just our brand new, state of the art aircraft we were testing."? HAHA, nope, they are gonna say they dont know what it was and let people use their imaginations. Yes, it was technically a UFO, was it anything "out of this world"? Probably not.
Just think of how advanced the SR-71 Blackbird was, they ran missions with that for years before actually acknowledging its existence.

Re: Texas UFO sighting
One of the oldest UFO sightings happened in Aurora Texas in 1897.

NASA has a project Aurora that has been running since the mid 1990's.
My guess would be that NASA is testing the next gen aircraft out of Brooks AFB near San Antonio.
