MSNBC Bridge Tracker: see the status of any bridge

#1 Postby Coredesat » Thu Jan 31, 2008 5:01 pm

MSNBC has a pretty interesting tool called the Bridge Tracker, which allows you to see when bridges on any given route (in the U.S.) were last inspected, as well as their status.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21840954/

The example route is a path on US 101 in the San Francisco area - look at how many of those bridges are listed as "functionally obsolete" despite their evaluation scores!

A very heavily trafficked bridge on Broad Street in downtown Richmond is listed as "Meets minimum tolerable limits to be left in place as is". Sadly, the city maintains the roads within its own limits (and not VDOT), so it would take the bridge coming close to collapsing for them to replace it.
