If you combine two medications in a dose size that would be harmless if u used only one medication you get the "synergic effect" which simply means that 1mg of drug A and 1mg of drug B ..combined..could have a much greater effect than 2mg of EITHER drug A or B.
Drugs react with each other as well as your body. A seemingly harmless combination or drugs, even OTC drugs, can be deadly.
Any medical professionals or anyone else for that matter feel free to correct me if im wrong. Been a long time since college.

Re: Actor Heath ledger found dead in apartment.
I was just at the doctor's yesterday and they have a television that shows infomercials about health issues, the doctor's office, etc. One of them did talk about combining OTC and prescription drugs and how one may negate or enhance the affects of the other. The recommendation was to talk with your doctor.
I know from experience that ever since I started to use Prozac, I can't use Alka Seltzer Plus to nip a cold in the bud. It makes me jittery and I can't sleep.

It just not OTC drugs, sometimes herbal supplements can negate/enhance the effects of prescription drugs.
