Amy Winehouse
I have noticed that there are alot of news stories and TV entertainment shows about her and her problems. Then she wins a bunch of grammies and I am wondering what is the big deal about her. I have not heard a single song by her and I listen to many different radio stations at work. I pull up youtude and click on her most famous song and was shocked. This woman is horrible. I cannot believe that people think she can sing. WOW. Rehab was terrible, no way should she had won the Grammy for that. All we can hope is that she will disappear like all of the other 'best new artists'. Sorry if any of you like her but this is my opinion. Yeech.

I am so glad you posted this too! I also wondered what the big deal is with her. I've been seeing her photos lately in Rolling Stone, People, etc. And I thought, geez have I been living under a rock or something? We listen to current alternative rock too. My daughters, 17 and 20, usually keep me current and up to date with who is the next big alt rock artist. They haven't mentioned her. Or just popular, next to be famous artist.
Well, anyway, I do agree with you Tstormwatcher! And for the record, I'm really not into oldies (unless it's the Beatles, of course) so I try to be very open minded with new artists (Beck, Foo Fighters, etc.). But this artist seems to have come on the scene, under the radar!

Re: Amy Winehouse
She sounds like a decent soul singer type, but she needs to hire someone to keep her fromm leaving the house drunk and shirtless.

Not a pretty picture.

Re: Amy Winehouse
Of the recent winners, Alicia Keys and Norah Jones aren't too bad at all. Carrie Underwood is talented, although she isn't exactly my style. Ditto Lauryn Hill. Christina Aguilera has a great voice, in my opinion (especially compared to fellow Mousketeer and gossip page companion, Britney), but I'm not a fan of most of her choice of material.
Rehab is a decent song, but I think the infamy of frequent drunken accidents and drug induced fights with her druggie husband, now off to jail, has given her more fame than she deserves.

Amy Winehouse is latest of British female singers that have (can't remember the British terms from their tabloids, so I'll use the American terms) skanky, anorexic, drug-ridden and under 25 personas that are being forced on the world by the British (and American) record industry. Lily Allen is another example of this. Compare them to K.T. Tunstall (Scotland) and Joss Stone, who also have great voices minus the drama and baggage.

Lily Allen can sing. She isn't hurt by having a semi-famous father, but she has talent.

I know she can sing. It just seems she going down the same path as Amy Winehouse. Well, she's mentioned in same breath as Winehouse. Her drunken tour of the US was well covered in the press.
