Sen. Edward Kennedy was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital today after spending less than an hour in the Cape Cod Hospital emergency room, a spokesman for the Cape Cod facility told CNN. A well-informed, prominent Democratic source in Massachusetts told CNN that the 76-year-old senator seemed to have "symptoms of a stroke

He was at Cape Cod Hospital before being flown to Mass. Gen, which from what I understand is one of the top hospitals in the Northeast. Hopefully he will be alright.

Family members have been summoned to Boston, the source said.

Not good news at all if true.

He has had some health issues for some time now. I hope this isn't serious.

CNN story said he had already undergone surgery on this neck arteries in October to reduce his stroke chances, so obviously doctors were concerned even then with the condition of his arteries.

Being reported as a seizure now and that the family is "guardedly optimistic". Doesn't sound too serious now.

He is reportedly talking and joking with family members this afternoon, so it sounds like it may not be too serious.

Whether one agrees with the man and his politics is of no matter. This is sad. Prayers going out to the family as they deal with this.

Thanks for the confirmation CM.

Thank you David. This is very sad news. The Kennedy family has more than its share of bad news and sadness.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Hasn't this family been tortured enough? Two murders, a plane crash and now this. My heart goes out to them all. :(

Indeed. Another tragedy that they absolutely did not deserve befalls them.

Prayers out to him.

Tragedies just follow the Kennedys. At least senator Kennedy has been able to have a fulfilling life unlike many of his brothers and other family members.

I thought the same exact thing when I saw the news on CNN during lunch. However, this is just as tragic.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Senator Kennedy and the rest of his family. :(
