So, the other day my daughter walks in with 2 borrowed DVD's
Of movies her friend said "you have to see"!
She asked - have you ever heard of Back to the Future?
LOL!!!
Don't you just love it when your grown kids (mine are 18 and 21 now) discover something they assume you know nothing about?
Reminds me of the time they started listening to Green Day. One of my daughters said - I wish we had their "first" album (which technically, wasn't their first album but anywho....). I said, do you mean THIS one? Reaching for Dookie, taking it off our CD organizer/bookcase? She gasped - you guys LIKE Green Day? LOL
See, sometimes you're not so clueless or ancient as they think you are.....he he
Anyway, guess I'm going to enjoy rediscovering Back to the Future this weekend! And I haven't had the heart to say, you do know there were three movies, don't you?

I'm 20 and I can't possibly imagine how anyone around my age hasn't at least heard of Back to the Future. I watched those films religiously as a kid and I still have the DVD boxset.
Then again, I never particularly cared for Spongebob or Pokemon or a lot of other newer stuff my peers fell in love with, so maybe I'm just 5 or 10 years behind the times.
Also, try telling her that Green Day are massive sellouts and American Idiot was a mediocre album, just to get a rise out of her. (it's true though!

Hi Mary. The adventures of Bif and McFly all over again! Sounds like a good way to spend a couple of hours on a warm summer weekend!
What scares me is when I hit the INFO button on a TV movie and it gives a date of more than 20 years ago even though I remember JUST going to it in the theater.
Enjoy your time powering up the flux capacitor!!!

Sellouts - never! LOL
Her dad and I were fans of GD first!
Yes she's seen ET. I would have to say she's fairly caught up on lots of movies but Back to Future, etc. somehow were missed. Also, Raiders of the Lost Ark (all 3, sigh....).
I remember going up to Blockbuster at least 8 years ago and not finding a good current movie to watch, with the whole family but in that teen movie genre. I stumbled upon Ferris Bueller. They looked at the cover and said, uh we've never heard of this movie! LOL Even their dad sat down to watch (again). We both said - it's a classic. From there they started with the Breakfast Club, Empire Records, Dazed & Confused, and on. It's been a movie watching blur at times in our house....

I'm not being much of a braggart, but I'm the exact opposite. I'm 18, but darned if I know the name of the next biggest rapper or pop idol. However, ask me questions about any performer from the 60s or 70s and I'd likely be able to answer. Same with movies. It's not to say I don't like recent music (sometimes I do), it's just I was raised on old times.

Ad Novoxium - nothing wrong with that! I think I've raised my daughters on both, watching shows I grew up with on reruns (Waltons, Little House, Eight is Enough, My Three Sons, etc.), they in turn had me try new shows over the years. Same with music. Since we're not into oldies much (except for the Beatles and Dylan), their tastes have gone the same as ours has since the 90s - alternative. But occasionally they'll buy an old song off iTunes and then play it for me in the car. One of the best ones was a Queen song (LOL, daughter said - Mom, this is a CLASSIC! Everyone I know loves this song!). She practiced a long time but now can play it on the piano (yes, it's Bohemian Rapsody). There's probably a gold mine in the basement, with their parents old LP's.......if someone wants to take the time and transfer them to CD or download them. We started that once but it took too long for one album.
There's probably a lot more movies my girls are missing. My oldest took a film study class in college. She started emailing me about the movies her professor had them watch. One was One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. So later, we watched it together (I had seen it years ago). I then asked if her prof showed Shawshank Redemption. She said no - gasp! I quickly ran up to Blockbuster and we all watched SR one night.
It is fun to either discover movies you somehow missed when they came out or re-watch them with newcomers.

Update - we've watched BTTF I and II now. I have to laugh at the Doc's quote for 2015 - where we're going we don't need roads!
So by that estimate, in 7 short years, we'll be driving up in the sky (the Jetsons come to mind) and cars run on rotten eggs and beer.
LOL!
We're going to borrow the third movie this week.
I had forgotten so much about these movies.
But truth be told, I just always feel so sad for Michael J. Fox - I wish there was a cure for him......
But I admire how he faced his disease and has raised awareness for Parkinson's.

My 17 year old son has "discovered" Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath. One of "his" bands, Godsmack, I think it is, did a remake of Zeppelin's Good Times, Bad Times. They thought it was all that, but it sounds just like the original.
Actually it doesn't make me feel cool to have them like what I used to like. For me it's more like annoying.

I had to go back a few posts to catch the pokemon referrence.....LOL! We still have a binder somewhere with pages of those cards. When they were worth something, we should have sold them! Oh well......yes my youngest daughter, the one who wanted to see the Back to the Future movies, was into Pokemon, etc. My former tomboy of sorts.......
Another movie we're missing I'm told is Blade Runner (since we're into Sci-fi so much......). Does anyone know if it's that good? It does seem to be one Sci-fi movie she's probably missing......
I just watched a 2 hour special on the Star Wars saga on the History channel. It was slightly different from other perspectives, this special compared it to religion, Greek mythology, good vs evil, and of course history.
What would we ever do without our music or movies? LOL
