Look what I found !

#1 Postby pvroses » Fri Jul 11, 2003 12:25 am

Tom nearly stepped on this "critter" tonite. How he missed it I'll never know ! Need some help w/ ID. I've never seen a catapiller/worm/larvae like this ! it even made noise when I touched it ! yes, I do stupid things like that and yes I screamed like a girl(but I still picked it up !) the catapiller was gray w/ black, looked almost scaled like a snake, but it felt like velvet(cool !) it has a fake eye on it's hiney(looked real !), one full "toe" on the backend, a few small toes along the body and kinda legs up by the head. It was a strong little bugger too,it twisted on the small twig I got it on and the whole thing turned in my hand ! Here's a link to a couple of pics....http://community.webshots.com/u ... orianroses Got any ideas ??? ~K Sorry about the link, haven't figured how to post one on this board, duh.

Wow, I've never seen a worm like that around here, either!
But, if you have a Dept. of Agriculture field office close by,
I'll bet they can tell you what it is!

Thank you Breeze ! I haven't posted a URL on this forum before and it didn't occur to me to practice before I started the topic !

I did find out this is the catapiller of a type of spinx(sp) moth. A huge nite moth ! Of course when I went out yesterday morning to check on him he was gone. Bummer. Maybe I'll see him later this summer, fluttering around..... ~K
