It's 24 years since the Chernobyl disaster

#1 Postby Cryomaniac » Sun Apr 25, 2010 6:28 pm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernobyl_disaster

It's always interested me in a way, maybe because it happened so soon after my birth (I was 2 months old at the time). I also would like to visit the abandoned city of Pripyat one day.

I also have been known (never 100% seriously) to blame my mild autism on the disaster.

I'm guessing there are plenty of users here who remember it well.

Yes I remember it well. First of all the possible ramifications if it wasn't controlled quickly scared me even though it was doubtful that I personally would be affected by it. Secondly, my SIL and family were in Trondheim, Norway when it happened and to say the least we were frightened for them as they were affected by it since they were less than 700 miles away. we'll never know if it had anything to do with her cancer after they returned, but it makes one wonder. I hope nothing similar to that ever happens again.

It would make me wonder too.
