We alll must live our lives knowing that an ending day will come. Along the way, we sometimes find ourselves turning sadness into triumph and disappointment into something good. Facing death is not easy, but how wonderful that your father is not alone...that he is among friends and family who care about him and remind him he will not be forgotten.
I never got to say goodbye to my mom....she slipped suddenly in a coma from a condition we thought was nothing more than the flu.
There is much peace in seeing your father smile, and you, yourself, need to make peace with both him and the change that is about to take place. Tell him you love him and appreciate him...and there is peace in knowing that for both of you.
A prayer was said this morning on behalf of your father, you, and your family.

God BLESS!!! Will keep the prayers!! heading to you and your familyStormsfury wrote:My father showed some happiness tonight and actually drank 2 Ensure supplement drinks. Speaking of family, my two half-sisters (his daughters from his first marriage) came up from Florida tonight along with one of my half-sis's husband, and my two nephews, and niece. We woke my father up and he looked so happy to see them tonight.
I'm so glad that they are here and they should be staying in the Charleston area for a couple of days. I saw my father smile for the first time in 4 days.
Just to let everyone know ... myself, and my family continue to appreciate the support. I didn't post anything, but I did get a chance to show off Storm2k to my brother-in-law, and my half-sis.
I'll keep everyone posted.

UPDATE: My father, though, still hasn't gotten out of bed, is alert and has been able to talk. He ate some food, which is another step in the right direction, and continues to drink his Ensure drinks. He has been able to talk as well which is also good ... once again, thanks for everyone's support.

Mike, my thoughts are with you. There's one thing that I want to do with my parents before they are gone. I want to spend some more time talking with them about our family history. They've told me stories over the years, but it's always fascinating to hear about it. It sounds like you and your dad are close, and maybe you already did that, but if not, it could add a lot to the next weeks if he could pass on some stories and reminisce with you. One of the things that always amazes me is to think about all the little decisions we make in our life that end up affecting other people's lives. Just the fact that I took my current job, and we moved to another town, resulted in our daughter meeting a guy and having a baby. Now our grandsons very life is a result of a descision I made 8 years ago. When you think about that it really makes you start to wonder about your place in life. Your dad may be pleased to pass on the family legacy to you.
You're doing a great job, you'll be blessed in ways that you can't imagine.

You are doing so many good things right now, Mike...so I'd just add my encouragement and best wishes again.
As a father myself, when I find myself staring at the end of life, I will surely want to have my sons smile at me if they are near, give me assurance that they understood and appreciated me for both the good and not-so-good times, and to hear them tell me they loved me.
Keep those things in mind, and you will do wonderful things in simple words for your dad.
