This was an interesting email when I received it in my campus mailbox.
To the UW Green Bay Community:
SCAM ALERT
Several UW-Platteville students were contacted yesterday by telephone and informed that they had WON a scholarship. The caller was seeking bank info, SSN info, mother's maiden name, and all the other info necessary for identify theft, credit card or bank scam.
The University Police at UW Green Bay were contacted this morning by a UWGB student who reported receiving a similar call from an individual also claiming to be verifying a scholarship that had been won. The caller was looking for home address information, length the student had lived at the residence, where the student had been employed, SSN and bank
information. Fortunately the student hung up before giving out too much information.
