After 12 years, four slayings are no closer to being solved

FORT WORTH - Lila Cockrell's heart still aches.

It has been 12 years since her mother, Velma Jones, 90, and Cockrell's brother, Ovid Jones, 63, were found fatally bludgeoned in their apartment at 920 College Ave.

No one has been arrested in the killings.

Cockrell, 81, said that detectives did all they could but that none of the pieces completed the puzzle.

"I had always hoped that there would be a solution found. I kept calling the Police Department to see if there were any new developments, and there were some leads that did not pan out," Cockrell said.

Eventually, she stopped calling, said Cockrell, a former mayor of San Antonio who still lives there.

Just like the Jon Benet Ramsey case, it will probably never be solved either. What a shame!
