Old time radio mysteries

#1 Postby hunter84 » Wed Oct 29, 2003 3:07 pm

Anyone remember those old radio mysteries we used to listen on am radios.
I thought of this because I had seen an ad selling cd's of them.
I remember a few like The pit and the Pendulum, Tell Tale Heart, and others but I can't remember the titles. Man they could scare the death out of you listening to them.

I used to go to sleep with the "CBS Radio Mystery Theater" on WLAP-AM in Louisville. I still remember how the announcer said "Myssssstery."

Then, when I was in 3rd grade, I won the school-wide spelling bee ("debris" was my word) and went to the county-wide. Won the county-wide ("gallant") and went to state. Was the only 3rd-grader in a room full of 4th-, 5th-, and mostly 6th-graders. Wayne Perky, a DJ from WLAP, was the emcee. Got down to 11 others and me. Then he said something that sounded like "aunshlant." I asked him to use it in a sentence and define it. Nothing helped. I wasn't familiar with the word when I did finally hear it properly so it's hard to say if I would have spelled it right after thinking about the pronunciation, the definition, and the context in a sentence. But I never listened to WLAP after that. :)

old radio mysteries

#7 Postby sunnyday » Wed Oct 29, 2003 5:14 pm

I collect old radio horror and mysteries. Some of them are The Whistler, Inner Sanctum, The Mysterious Traveler, Quiet, Please, Suspene, etc, etc.
I have lots of neat shows. I get most of them on ebay.
