Diner gets disorderly at the drive-thru

#1 Postby TexasStooge » Fri Oct 31, 2003 8:38 am

COLUMBUS, Ga. — The customer isn't always right, especially if she swears at her food server.

A $17 Taco Bell order ended up costing Rhonda Grant an additional $165 in fines for disorderly conduct after she yelled and cursed into the restaurant's drive-thru microphone, according to employees.

The Oct. 6 ordeal began immediately after Grant placed her order at the drive-thru. Employees say they filled the order, but claim that Grant began to argue with them over the speaker system.

Grant, on the other hand, claimed that instead of simply fixing the order mix up, a Taco Bell employee demanded that she pull her car to the side so that other customers could be served.

The store manager, Melissa Pugh, told police that Grant responded by "screaming and cursing" into the drive-thru microphone.

Grant eventually left the store with her money refunded and denied causing a scene. Nevertheless, Recorder's Court Judge Mary Buckner fined Grant, but reportedly advised Taco Bell to develop a better policy for checking orders.

I knew there was a reason I did not care for drive-thru's at fast food places.

Actually, I usually pull forward about 20 feet after picking up my order to make sure it is OK. When it is not (which is maybe 10% of the time), I pull into a parking space and walk inside to correct the problem. And there certainly is no need for cursing at the employees - unless they curse at you first, of course. :27: :cheesy:

That's why I just walk in a fast food place and order from there.

I worked at McDonalds while going to college in the early 80's. Best job I ever had, not to mention I had so much fun!! We were all a team!! We had the occasional complainer come through the drive-thru. So, when that happened we would pull them up to wait. If they asked for a fish sandwich we would drown it with extra tarter sauce. If they wanted a burger without pickles we added extra pickles. There is more than one way to skin a cat when they come through being mean. This lady went a bit too far and she deserved what she got.

Personally after working at McDonalds, I am always respectful to them at the drive thru. Ya never know what you are going to get if you are rude and obnoxious. hehe. Oh, we would get cursed out ALOT!!

That poor store manager was always busy because of us.

A bit of a tangent, but I was walking into Starbucks the other day, and I couldn't believe it, there were I think 2 people inside and the drive through was packed, I mean they needed traffic lights out there. I was amazed, I felt like yelling "Get your lazy behinds out of your cars and order inside"!! But then I thought, ahhhh...I would have had to wait then!! lol Crazy stuff!

Linda, I can echo you completely, except it was Wendy's for me! I had a great time working there, and did see my personal share of some rude drive-thru people!! After that experience and knowing how hard it can get when they get busy, I am ALWAYS courteous when I go thru a drive thru!! (And my friends think it's hilarious!)
