Soldiers having to give up pets...

#1 Postby streetsoldier » Thu Nov 27, 2003 6:04 am

This was in our local rag...an Army National Guard MP had to drive 75 miles to Sikeston to take his two basset hounds and a dachshund to the Animal Shelter here, since he's been called up and has no way to tell how long he'll be gone.

The shelter, which runs only on donations, is looking for a "foster" home to care for the dogs...they won't split them up, and any applicants will be screened very carefully.

Anyone across the fruited plain seeing this happen?

How sad. Hopefully some kind-hearted people will take are of them, and hopefully we can take care of business in Iraq so these brave men and women can come home.

I haven't heard of this happening anywhere locally. I'm sure that there will be someone more than happy to take them in. It is very sad.
