Terrorist Attack
I think they are calling our bluff and just trying to ruin our holiday season. Sure hope I am right.

I voted "Yes", just on the side of prudence and caution.
Remember, these people (?) want nothing more than to KILL as many of us as possible, whenever they can, and using whatever means they can. And they will never stop. They can't be placated, reasoned with, or accept any negotiated settlement; they want OUR BLOOD, friends. Period.
Frightened? No....aware and cautious, YES.

This is my feeling, thus I voted yes.

I voted yes since there have been indications of a possible upcoming attack since early November. Not only did the gov say that they've received more evidence of an attack now more than at any other time since 9/11, but the gov is already having drills. It's obvious that they're more concerned this time. I also feel that we're becoming more complacent already.
Official: Numerous people on terror lists blocked from U.S.
New warnings for possible al Qaeda attacks abroad
WASHINGTON (CNN) --Numerous people named on America's terrorist watch lists have been prevented from entering the United States since December 1, after "credible" intelligence pointed to possible major terrorist attacks, a government official said Tuesday.
The official, who would not provide specifics, said the people were turned back at various locations. Another government official said a handful of flight crew members from other countries also have been stopped in recent days.
The United States has been working with airlines and governments of other countries in an attempt to improve their security, especially after Sunday's move by the Department of Homeland Security to raise the nation's terror threat level from "elevated" (yellow) to "high" (orange).
In addition, a senior State Department official said Tuesday the U.S. government has received intelligence that al Qaeda is planning attacks against U.S. interests in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Yemen and Kenya. The official said the intelligence spells out "a general threat of attack" against U.S. interests in those countries, but does not mention a specific target.
The official said the United States is getting "good cooperation throughout the [Persian] Gulf" in terms of providing extra security to U.S. facilities.
In Washington, high-level Pentagon officials, with the exception of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, were scheduled Tuesday to move at a moment's notice to secret locations, in a drill to practice what happens if the Defense Department is disabled by terrorists, U.S. officials said.
The so-called "continuity-of-government" exercise is a direct result of the heightened terror threat alert, the officials said. The secret locations are outfitted with communications and other facilities to keep the Pentagon functioning.
Missile batteries placed in Washington
Missile batteries were being moved into place around Washington, and possibly around New York City, and "irregular air patrols" were ordered because of what one senior Pentagon official called "specific, reliable, credible" intelligence regarding a possible terror strike.
Some of that relates to the possible use of aircraft originating in other countries as weapons in suicide attacks, a homeland security official said.
There are particular concerns about Washington, New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and a handful of other cities and, according to some sources, two rural areas -- one in the East and one in the Southwest, the official said.
U.S. authorities are concerned about possible terrorist attacks using airplanes from Mexico and Canada, because of their contiguous airspace, and about France and several other countries, an official said. Governors have been given lists of specific measures and sites to be protected, including critical infrastructure which, if hit by an aircraft, could cause extensive problems, the official said.
"International aviation security standards are still voluntary," said Rafi Ron, an airline security analyst. "We know that many countries around the world do not exercise those standards."
President Bush assured Americans Monday, "Our government is doing everything we can to protect our country."
The threat level has been raised to high several times since the attacks on September 11, 2001, but officials at all levels said the threat this time around seems more serious than prior threats.
Some homeland security officials predicted the increased security could last into February, at a cost of about $1 billion per week -- much of it in increased overtime costs for law enforcement personnel.
Thirty members of the Alabama National Guard were deployed Tuesday to assist with security in four major Alabama airports in response to the heightened terrorism threat alert. According to Alabama National Guard representative Bob Horton, Gov. Bob Riley requested that the National Guard supplement existing security at airports in Birmingham, Huntsville, Montgomery and Mobile.
New York Gov. George Pataki told reporters that he signed an executive order to allow state troopers from New York, Connecticut and New Jersey to ride and monitor commuter trains.
In addition, he said, "we've increased patrols along the Canadian borders and ... are working to make sure everything from airports to bridges, tunnels and other mass transit facilities have heightened security."
But Pataki urged visitors and residents to get out and enjoy the season. "Go to the restaurants, see the shows; there's no more exciting or better place to be."
Los Angeles Mayor Jim Hahn said security efforts were escalated at Los Angeles International Airport and the Port of Los Angeles by increasing police patrols and perimeter checkpoints, and performing random vehicle inspections.
Police dogs roamed many airports, most trained in sniffing out explosives.
Some travelers expressed annoyance at the delays, but most appeared to take the changes in stride.
"I travel international and I don't feel it's giving me a lot of comfort," one Los Angeles airline passenger told CNN. "It seems like there's a lot of confusion."
The airport is expected to handle 2.6 million passengers between December 19 and January 6.
CNN's Jeanne Meserve and Kathleen Koch contributed to this report.

Also remember the article from ABC 2 DAYS before homeland security gave any indications that they would be raising the terror alert level.
Intel Surge
U.S. Intelligence Learn of Possible Threats to New York and Other Cities
Dec. 19— Authorities are evaluating a surge of information related to possible terrorist threats to a number of cities in the United States, including New York City, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., ABCNEWS has learned.
Threat information is coming from intelligence intercepts, interrogation of recent detainees and other methods, sources say.
Sources say the threat to New York City possibly involves a female suicide bomber, but no specific target has been identified and intelligence sources are still evaluating the credibility of this threat. The New York City Police Department released a statement saying it has "no credible intelligence pointing to a specific or imminent terrorist threat" in the city.
In the threats received for other cities, including Los Angeles and Washington, no mode of attack has been identified and no location or specific cells were named.
Senior officials from the Department of Homeland Security, intelligence and law enforcement have a planned meeting Monday to evaluate the recent surge in information related to possible terror threats.
"We have remained concerned about the volume of reporting of threats and that is why the Department of Homeland Security has sent out several bulletins over the past few weeks to homeland security officials and law enforcement personnel, urging all to continue be on heightened state of alert especially, as we enter the busy holiday season," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said today at a news conference.
Preparations Already Under Way
Officials around the nation were already actively engaged in serious discussions with the Department of Homeland Security about whether events, chatter and the time of year warrant elevating the threat level inside the United States to orange, or high, for the upcoming holiday season that starts tonight at sunset.
Considerations underpinning the discussions include the capture of Saddam Hussein, information gleaned from online chat rooms, classified information arising from one of the former Soviet republics and increased concerns of authorities in Italy, the United Kingdom and Poland, sources say.
The discussions are part of an intense series of conference calls and personal meetings between officials that have been ongoing since at least Wednesday, as the nation enters the holiday rush.
An estimated 500,000 people are expected to flood into New York City for this year's Times Square New Year Eve's bash. There, they will watch as retired Army Spc. Shoshana Johnson, a former prisoner of war in Iraq, will press the Waterford crystal button that signals the dropping of the ball.
Mitigating against raising the level to orange are fiscal considerations. State officials say the cost of raising the threat level is too high unless there is a specific threat. Today in New York City, law enforcement officials began finalizing their plans for the New Year's security package, which will include the welding shut of manhole covers, the removal of post office boxes, and the preparation of a rodeo-like series of pens and gates that funnel backpack-less revelers into the area along Broadway.
Heavy weapons teams, bomb squads, city, state and federal weapons of mass destruction units, bioterror sensors, undercover agents, thousands of uniformed officers and so-called Arch Angel convoys — units trained to remove dignitaries in case of an incident — are all part of the plan.
Sources said there is only a "slight chance" the nation could go to orange and it is much more likely that additional alerts will go out and local officials can then choose how to respond on their own.
And remember that officials had meetings 72 hours before they officialy raised the alert level.

But, they will never catch us off guard again. We will always be prepared and ready. Our intelligence is so good that it will be next to impossible for them to sneak an attack that catches us totally off guard. They know this so if they attack again, it probably will be when our terror alert has been raised. Our government gets many threats every day. For the terror alert level to be raised, they have to have significant intel to do it. We've been fortunate to stop previous ones in the working.
And I feel like Bill. I'm not scared or changing a thing in my life, but I will be aware and cautious.

I also voted no, but a terrorist attack COULD happen at almost any time, this time around it wouldn't catch us off guard though...even pre 9-11 they kind of knew about it or that it could happen but nothing was done, but there are no imment threats in my mind.

I do believe the government knew something was up before 9/11...i'm not sure about a lot of things but this site covers all the possibilities...

I vote yes because the warnings have been coming in left and right. Steve Quayle's website links to an extremist's website where this person warns it's a matter of days and things will start in London.
Our high ranking Pentagon officials went off on a mock drill this morning to secure locations. Watch what they do, not what they say.

Lemme just add that from what i'm hearing on other forums, "EOM" allegedly posted on MSNBC forums on 9/7/01 that something would happen soon. He dissapeared for two years and retured two months ago. If it wasn't for that nobody would be listening to him.

I am not changing my lifestyle either but to say they will never catch us off guard again is pretty strong words. They did it to us on 9-11 and caught us completely off guard and and they can do it again.
