How often do you check the news?

#1 Postby Miss Mary » Sat Mar 08, 2003 11:52 am

Ever since September 11, I've checked CNN and other news site online and first thing turning on the TV, I check news channels. Then TWC. It's addicting, sadly so much so in these turbulent times we're in. The other day I was coloring my hair (sorry out to you guys, but it's a time consuming process!) and the phone just kept ringing and ringing. Hangups, no messages left. First thing that popped in my head was a breaking news story. Isn't that an awful thought? I quickly turned on the TV, of course.

Used to be my family and I enjoyed an escape type weekend (hiking, fresh air, no phones/TV). Can't imagine that type of getaway right now.

Just wondered if anyone else is constantly checking the news. (I even check AM stations first while in the car and then listen to music on FM). I relax only when everything seems to be okay. But we all know it's not okay right now!

I watch Good Morning America...then the noon and evening local news out of Raleigh...and then National/World news on either CBS or ABC. Also, the Saturday Morning Show on CBS...like to get my once a week dose of Ira Joe Fisher!

Read the daily paper, too.

I have CNN running almost constantly for any developments and it seems as though regular scheduled programs are being interrupted.....just a sign of whats to come if all this goes down in a few days.

We have either CNN or MSNBC on ALL day long, mainly for back ground noise. Since I've been laid up over the past month, the tv in the bedroom is either on TV Land, yes, I'm a TV Land JUNKIE, gotta LUV those old sitcoms, Leave it Beaver, Father Knows Best etc., in between commercials, it's CNN-MSNBC surfing. I know, we too have made plans to travel somewhere, just when we do, something happens and we don't go for fear of something happening PLUS with the price of GAS, MY GOD, we're at 1.79 GALLON!!!!

When I'm awake. :o

Well, actually, it stays on Fox News most of the time. I don't sit in front of the TV watching unless there's something specific I want to see. It usually just stays on there and I can keep up with what's going on as I tend to other things. I rarely watch CNN or MSNBC. I like my "fair and balanced" news.

(I will pretend I didn't see the "fair and balanced" comment! ;) )

I generally check online quite often and watch on tv several times during the day. We leave the tv on MSNBC during Newswriting class.

In addition, I watch the local morning news, the news at 5 and again at 10. I am usually busy at 6 and the 9:00 news sucks.

I wake up every morning at 6-6:30, and the tv is on TWC until 7:00 when Today starts and I flip it over there, and just hope it isn't bad news! Then when i get home, I watch the local 5:00 news and back to TWC! lol

I know, I know. Those of you who prefer your news leaned to the left don't quite know what to make of fair and balanced reporting.
Actually, I think it is just that everyone was so used to liberal biased news for so many years that when they now see unbiased news, it may appear to lean the other way. But it is only fair and balanced. They've got liberals and conservatives on the payroll as well as anchors who I have a hard time figuring out what they are. That's the way it should be.

Anyway, I forgot to mention that when I'm online, I also check for news updates. I check Fox News and Drudge Report often as well as a few breaking news alerts.

I would get all those other "fair and balanced" news networks, too, but the local cable company rips you apart on the cost! :o

Yes, I know there are always online news outlets, too.

I watch FoxNews at scattered intervals throughout the day, with some TWC interspersed between the "ungodly" programming the kids watch (King of the Hill, The Simpsons, Smallville, Buffy, Angel, Birds of Prey and Roswell among others. )

CNN or MSNBC. I like my "fair and balanced" news

MSNBC AND CNN are far from fair and balanced.

Fox is the only fair and balanced

I think they all are fair and balanced when it comes to breaking news. I just don't like the commentary shows. I have found myself turning to Headline News in the evenings late. No spin there for the most part... just news. Which is what I want!

Fox isn't fair and balanced... Alan Combes is the only liberal on their air. Actually... the 2 most fair and balanced peeps on FOX are Bill O'Reilly and Shep Smith. Even though Bill has opinions, he is not afraid to bring someone on who has differing opinions.
