I was almost in tears...

This morning sucked! My bus normally comes at 7:55...so I went out at 7:55.
The temp. at the time was *13 with a wind chill of -2*..It was 8:00 and the bus still hadn't come. I coulden't feel my face, or hands, because I forgot my gloves and hat and home....and if I went to get them, I thought I would've missed the bus. It was 8:15, and my bus still hadn't come...I coulden't feel my face, hands, and the wind blowing into my face didn't help either..Evreyone waited until 8:20, and then went back to there houses to get a ride from there parents...I don't think I've ever been that cold in my life! I was almost in tears! Even with 3 layers...!

Then the bus drivers excuse this afternoon was " Sorry, the bus broke down this morning!"

I'm not surprised that the bus broke down in those temperatures. It was one cold morning. I'm glad that you're okay!

I've been through the same situation in 8th grade, I was lucky I didn't get any frostbite, but then again, the temps were warm back then. After showing up at the bus stop at 7:00AM, because the bus was supposed to show up at 7:15, the bus didn't show up. 30 minutes after that, the bus still didn't show up, another 30 minutes still it didn't show up, then I was on the edge of getting a nervous breakdown, I was thinking "I'm gonna be tardy to school, I'm gonna get a detention!" By the time I arrived at school via neighbor, I was on time by 2 minutes. Come to find out that the substitute driver was driving an old route from 1998.

That's bad Stooge. I got picked up by a sub driver once and taken to the wrong school. I grew up in a small town, and the school had one class for each grade. The other school had like 3 for each grade and was closer to the city. I wasn't scared, but thought I was going to get in trouble too. I don't know if my mom every knew anything about it.

I had just about that experience this morning... after the district went on an hour delay, when the bus did get there, I stood outside for 20 minutes because the lift on the bus broke when it got here...brothers think that the lift just said, "Nope, I'm not lifting THAT weight!" LOL! Still, when I got to school, my face and hands were both FROZEN...and I had gloves and a hat on! And BTW it did not help me to get over the cold I had had for 3 days either!

Good to hear you are ok...maybe you should pack an extra ski mask and gloves just in case.

Hopefully the school district will also find a way to inform parents and students if problems arise with transporation, too. Bitter cold can be very dangerous.

.....at least those that live up atop Mount Washington, New Hampshire do not live there all year long and there are only a few of them, which are forecasters and meteorologists.

One of the many benefits of living in the country is that the bus comes to my house to pick up my kids
If it's late, they stay inside where it's warm and cozy while waiting on it. If it's early, you should see them scramble to get out the door! It's usually like a madhouse around here every morning. My wife and I get up around 5:30. She leaves at 6 going to nursing school, which leaves me in charge of getting the kids up and ready for school. I wake them at 6:15, but they drag around till 6:30 before getting up. The bus comes at 7 so they rush to get dressed.

Sheesh!! That's a bummer, I used to hate waiting for the bus!! But the rule around here is that if a bus is any later than half an hour they excuse your absence until you get there! hehehe....had fun with that a few times!

We've had sub zero temps here for four days now (in this stretch). My kids normally walk to school. You should have seen them on Wednesday...lol they looked like two pillsbury doughboys walking to school......lol Thursday I was going to drive them to school, but school ended up getting cancelled for the day. Boy were they relieved. with almost -60 wind chill, they enjoyed staying in the warm house.

My girls have a short walk to the bus but in frigid wx it's a hike. And standing, waiting for that bus isn't fun. I do drive them somedays but they're at different schools this year, now their start time is the same - 7:20 a.m., still it's not easy. So it's hard to get them both there on time! And it's hard to get them to wear gloves - they're 13 and 16. But after reading what happened to you Cheesypuffs, I think I'll probably at least try to drive them more. It has been very cold here in Cincinnati.

Just remembered another time, on 9/12/2001. Buses picking up kids from Fort Drum were more than 2 hours late...most of the kids were good and waited the entire time for the bus. Going out was bad as well, since every car, be it a sedan, truck, or bus, was being hand searched by armed guards. Like 9/11, 9/12 is a day that many up here will never forget.
