Microsoft offers $250,000 reward for MyDoom virus

#1 Postby CaptinCrunch » Fri Jan 30, 2004 1:33 pm

Microsoft announced on Thursday that it will offer $250,000 for information leading to the capture and conviction of the individual or group responsible for the release of MyDoom.B.
The original MyDoom virus started spreading on Monday and quickly swamped the Internet. The MyDoom.B variant appeared on Wednesday and, among other things, prevents an infected PC from accessing some Microsoft Web sites and targets Microsoft's main Web site with a denial-of-service attack due to start on Feb. 1.

"When we looked at the B variant, we found it to be much more malicious," said Sean Sundwall, a spokesman for the software giant. "It's not that we think the person who wrote the original (virus) is not just as culpable."
The reward is the third time Microsoft has posted a $250,000 "Wanted" sign on the Internet.

i accidently dl'ed it earlier this week...and read an article about it on http://www.cnn.com about 10 minutes later. That really annoyed me! The only reason i opened it was because it came from a university email ...@email.unc.edu...so i opened it. dumbo me. But i got the removal tool off of the symantec website and all seems good. They say feb 1 is the day we'll find out...so til then...i am hoping for the best!

I would like to tar and feather these folks and then send them to Afganistan! In the last three days our anti-virus server has caught over 3,000 incoming e-mails with the Doom.A virus. It's almost a full time job now checking the virus logs to make sure nothing slipped through. :-(

There seems to have been alot of viruses developed that are aimed at destroying something of Microsoft's.

Envy is a serious mind altering drug..
