David - you sound just like my kids when they have a snow-day! They get so excited especially my 13 year old. My 16 year old just goes back to bed. My youngest likes to read all the school closings and delays until 9 a.m. LOL Over and over again, learning who among her cousins are off that day.

They had a snow-day last Monday and we baked a batch of homemade pretzles. We used to do that years ago. And go sled riding. I think we need another snow-day again!

Well, enjoy your free day. Make the most of it!

Well.. our district like.. never closes.. cause we're in a city. Also, we got the new superintendent from New York City... and he's seen more snow then this.

David - in our township we have plenty of salt (tax dollars) and plenty of plows/trucks (again, tax dollars). Consequently, my kids don't often have snow-days either. Which bums them out all the time. Contrast that to nearby counties/rural areas supplied with sand only and well, the difference is like night and day. There are many schools in rural areas that close when a few flakes appear or it goes below freezing and melting snow the day before refreezes! Many teachers I know joke they want jobs in those rural areas. Jeremy probably knows what I'm talking about. There are about 5 or so schools that are just always closed when schools start delaying or closing. We bought our dog in one of these areas and laughed the minute we saw - entering Switzerland County (in Indiana) - because we knew those kids got off a lot in the winter.

My superintendint use to be from BUFFALO...and he's seen way more snow then we get, but he would always close schools whenever we got snow. 8-)

Hope you enjoyed your day-off...I have one today..cause of Ice. :D

I always liked to listen to the school cancellation list when I was going to school (1984 to 1996), too.

By the 1990's my favorite radio station was (still is) the all news/talk station in Boston (WBZ NewsRadio 1030); I can't pick it up "down here" in central Florida (well I have two or three times in the middle of the night... they reach 38 states [including Florida] during the late night-early morning hours, but a Spanish station [I assume from Miami] overpowers them in this area.

USD 501 has NEVER started late or dismissed early for weather reasons. So.. it's either we go or not... usually we go.
