Punk- The Ramones, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Iggy Pop
Alternative- REM, Human League, Alphaville, New Order, The Stranglers
New Wave-Elvis Costello, Talking Heads, The Fixx, The B-52's
Classic Rock - The Doors, Led Zep, Yes
Psychedelic- Bevis Frond, Kaleidoscope, The Byrds
Bluegrass
The Blues

I'm thinking that we are in for another revolution in music.
In the 60's music changed because of social changes and the war protest. In the 70's it was good time music, but nothing very new.
In the 80's there was the punk and alternative revolution. I believe that this was inspired by the economic hard times, especially in England, and the cold war coming to a final climax.
In the 90's it was good time music again.
In the 00's, the world political situations and a potential war could inspire new movements in music.

This year, so far ... the best new stuff IMO I've heard have come from

1) Disturbed - Believe (CD came out near the end of last year)
2) Evanescence (Bring Me To Life) - Bought this CD "Fallen" Saturday
3) Godsmack (Straight Out Of Line) - Comes out in April
4) Seether - Driven Under - Haven't bought the CD

I may have missed a few so please don't hold it against me. 8)

Like Rob, I used to DJ... 7 years on college radio - running the station by the end of my tenure... I've heard it all... and then some... the good... the bad... and the drink coasters... ;)

A few more genres not to be missed: Jazz, Ska, Rave/Techno/House, A cappella, CCM (Contemp. Christian Music), Disco, Funk, Marches, New Age (though it's not for everyone), Standards, Showtunes, and of course our FAVORITE genre - Local on the 8's ;) ;) ;)

I listen to it all...

We are so blessed with the gift of hearing... Amen!

Right now, the Evanescence Track #4 - My Immortal - is a departure from the band's style, as this song (also featured on the Daredevil Soundtrack) is a piano driven ballad and sang absolutely beautifully by Amy Lee, Evanescence's lead vocalist.

I also bought another CD by Lacuna Coil (From Italy) which also has an enchantress on Lead Vocals, Cristina Scabbata, and also male lead vocals - Andrea Ferro ...

Evanescence's First Single - Bring me to Life reminded me a lot of Lacuna Coil (as the 12 Stones Vocalist was featured on this track), and instantly drew me to this band, plus Amy Lee's enchanting vocals overlayed into a sonic hard rock assault with touches of gothic ... sort of an ethereal mix.

Footnote: About time, 96WAVE FM in CHS finally played Godsmack's "Straight Out Of Line".

Seether is a band from Amanzi's Home Country of South Africa. Driven Under is a very powerful song.

I actually listed my whole cd collection on the Radio and Records message board, which happens to be my other hobby. I follow music trends, especially in country music.

I sometimes wonder why I am so boring!!

Speaking of Charlie Daniels, read my post titled "Charlie Daniels' Open Letter to the Hollywood Bunch - Wow!"

I just may start listening to him.
