First Friday of Lent...what's for dinner?

For all the Catholics out there or anyone else who abstains from meat on Fridays what did y'all have today? I had some vegetable pizza for lunch and tonight I'll be having Crawfish! :grrr: I can't wait (some penance huh? lol)

Seafood--Probably a fried soft shell crab dinner

For lunch I had an egg salad sandwich I made myself and I ordered some fries to go with it.

Haven't had seafood yet today. Just a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch and a dose of cough syrup for breakfast. I'm desi driving tonight so I'll probably skip anything major for dinner, eat whatever meatless snacks they have at the hangouts, and drink lots of Diet Pepsi. Friday nights are free food nights in Galveston. A lot of my favorite places to go have a nice spread of hors d'oeuvres. Cadillac Bar (I think they're exclusively in TX) on the Seawall closed. They used to have free buffalo wings, quesadillas, nachos, and queso.

I believe so, since tuna is fish and fish does not count as meat.

Lunch was a tuna fish sandwich and for supper we're having some kind of frozen fish nuggets, french fries and an undecided vegetable!

That would be fine. :)

Fish, eggs, veggies, and fruits are all good. The reason we abstain from eating red meat is because back in the old days, meats like beef and pork were festive foods for feasting (was that redundant? :) ). The rich could afford to eat those foods pretty regularly. So, in an effort to discipline their will and show penance for their sins during Lent, they gave up indulgences like meat and ate the more commonly accessible foods like fish. Of course, it's done on Fridays because Jesus died on a Friday. The forty days is symbolic of the many occurrences of 40 days of discipline in the Bible, most notably Jesus' time in the desert. The actual time between Ash Wednesday and Easter is longer than 40 days (46, to be exact) because Sundays don't count. Jesus was resurrected on Sunday, so it is a day of celebration, not abstinence or fasting. However, depending upon how you were raised and taught, some people like me continue to abstain from whatever indulgence it is that they gave up for Lent. But in terms of diet, Sundays are feast days.

I've had non-Catholic friends ask about our sacraments and Lent and things like that, wondering why the Catholic church makes "rules" that supposedly aren't in the Bible. The basis for Lenten abstinence is in Daniel 10:2-3) -- "I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks. I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over."

Well I worked all day..10AM till midnite. So I had a veggie sub with extra extra extra cheese and half a jar of mayo on it for lunch..along with a diet coke of course. For dinner I had ice cream and lasagne. :D

I had an interesting encounter with members of a UPC church down here in Galveston, in regards to the Trinity vs. Oneness debate. That's just such a bizarre concept.
