That is one that really bugs me, too. Is "ask" really so hard to pronounce? And I really don't want anybody to "axe" me about anything!

Have a sister that does that. Drives me batty. lol.

It drives me especially crazy when I'm on the phone with someone and while telling me something they
keep asking "see what I'm saying?"

Drives me batty too! LOL

I thought of "you know," yesterday in reference to the "right" and/or "really." Same as with "right"
and/or "really"... many communication students learn to not use it as often or at all... you can truly see
it with television anchors and reporters.

It is definitely not that easy to never say in a conversation.

of me. They refer to every route that goes through here as the___ as in The 90, the 20, the 5, the 290

They say it the same way here in central Florida. That isn't the case in Massachusetts.

south. If they are going "up" they need to be heading north. ;) I never understood why some don't grasp
that concept.

I believe a certain amount of these people do grasp the geographical concept of north not actually being
up and south actually not being down... but on a map, north is up and south is down. :) -- this coming
from someone who enjoys (U.S.) Geography. :)

GalvestonDuck wrote:In regards to "up" and "down," what if where they're going is south (down) but
at a higher elevation (up)?

Absolutely right, that will be going down and up, southerly and up and down, northerly, respectively. :P

Does anyone really know what Valentime's Day is? :)

Another one......instead of Colorado, I've heard MANY people pronouce it "Coloraid-o"

And one thing that drives me NUTZ is when a radio DJ says "and uh..." There's a local station up here at this one DJ says "uh" as EVERY. OTHER WORD :grr: "The uh, weather today uh, will be uh, sunny and uh warm!"

Dennis - I hate when people pronounce Cincinnati - "Cincinnata". That drives me nuts!!! There isn't an A at the end of that word!!!! We have a suburb 20 minutes away from ours that's very quaint, tudor homes, one of the few planned communities in the whole country, started in the 50s, called Mariemont. Before we moved to this side of town, I pronounced it - Marie-mont. Like the female name of Marie. But it's actually pronounced - Mary-mont. You can tell a newcomer to Cincinnati right off if they pronounce it - Marie-mont!!!!

LOL, Mary! The ones who say Cincinnati have probably traveled in from the west and are the same ones who pronounce my birthplace as "Missourah." I've been told that how the native Missourians say it, but I don't. :)

"John Allen Muhammad was sentenced to die today..."

So, will he be dead before midnight?

No, he was given the death sentence today. But when he'll die is a whole other story.
