Read all about it here!!!! I hate his show, just hate it, and finally it will no longer air here. I have personally called WLWT/Channel 5, the NBC affiliate and station where his TV career started after serving as our Mayor, to complain many times thru the years. I feel like celebrating!!! And I used to like the man, once upon a time.....

Today on Springer: My TV station dumped me
By Rick Bird
Post staff reporter
"The Jerry Springer Show" is making an earlier than expected exit from WLWT-TV (Channel 5), apparently because of decency concerns.
The station where Springer got his start in the 1980s as a news commentator and later as an anchor has dropped the show effective March 22. Its corporate parent apparently is suddenly worried about the show's sex, language and violence.
The move only speeds up what was already scheduled to happen. Channel 5 last fall announced it was not renewing its contract for Springer's show because, Channel 5 said, of its "declining ratings performance" in this market. The station was scheduled to air it until late summer, however.
Hearst-Argyle, Channel 5's corporate owner, apparently has decided that, in the wake of the new concerns about broadcast decency, it would abandon the show immediately here and at a station it owns in Baltimore.
"As the FCC focuses on programming content, we wouldn't anticipate Springer escaping that radar," explained Channel 5 General Manger Richard Dyer about Hearst-Argyle's decision.
Springer's show already had been picked up for the fall by WSTR-TV (Channel 64). The station will get it sooner than expected, much to the delight of Channel 64 General Manager Merry Ewing. Springer's show will debut on Channel 64 at 10 a.m. March 22.
"The show has a great legacy in this town," Ewing said.
Channel 5 will replace Springer at 11 a.m. with "Judge Joe Brown" until Aug. 30, when the new "Jane Pauley Show" will go into the time slot.
After flirting with a run for U.S. Senate from Ohio last summer, Springer signed a new multi-year deal last summer with the show's producers to continue as the host. While the show has toned down some of its violence and language in recent years, viewers can still find a parade of dysfunctional "trailer park trash" characters who may or may not be real. It is known that producers encourage the guests to "act up" on the show.
While the show's ratings have faded since its late '90s heyday, it still is one of the top 15-rated, syndicated daytime U.S. shows.
Any glow from Springer's Cincinnati legacy seems long gone in this market. The show has been running a distant fourth in ratings at 11 a.m. behind "The Price is Right" on Channel 12, ABC's "The View" on Channel 9 and Channel 19's "Texas Justice."
Whoa - J. Springer's show no longer to air in Cincinnati!

I occasionally come across him while flipping channels. A total waste of air time IMO.
Kelly - yes it is a nice gift! You don't know how disgusted by his show I've been. First he was a very popular Mayor!!! Then a beloved newscaster. He started his commentary right here, after the 11 p.m. news each night. He would choose one current local news piece and give his thoughts. The take care of yourself and eachother bit? Started right here. So when he turned his talk show into the freak show that it sadly is today, he turned so many Cincinnatian's off. If I saw him today, and he does pop into town I've heard (and heard he misses our city), I know I'd probably just shake my head. And wander away. No more - hello Mr. Springer. He'd get my best disgusted, I would never vote for you (he wants to run for Congress too one day we've heard), look I could send!!!
So now you can see why I want to share this great news!!!

I'm always glad to see these shows disappear...even if only in one market. My niece went on Maury Povich's show to showcase troubled teen moms. They paid her way to NYC, put her up in a nice hotel, and then exploited her sad story. I never saw it...only heard about it.
Even if these folks aren't actors, they are certainly taken advantage of one more time by the media.
Jerry is among the worst offenders. Glad to see he is being shelved in Cincinatti.

Well, guess what everyone? Another station in Cincinnati, a WB network affiliate, will carry the Jerry Springer show this Fall. Dang. There will be a time period that his show will not air here at all. But by Sept., it will be on the airwaves again. At least it's a small victory and we can all thank Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake for this!!! Apparently all networks are rethinking the boundaries of decency. So thanks for that "wardrobe malfunction" there Janet, in an indirect way. LOL
And I agree, all the contestants and audience members on JS's show seem to be coached and are actors. I would imagine every female is asked if she'll take her top off if prompted to do so, and if you say no, I won't do that, you're probably bumped. What an awful show Jerry's show is. And at one time, he seemed poised to be the next Phil Donahue! Honest - he had quality, usuful material on his show with real, genuine people as guests. I like to say when Jerry was faced with the high/low roads in life, he took the low road. If only he had taken the high road, like Oprah did. Sigh......
