Words,Words,Words...part 2

Following up on Garrett's post about what words annoy you -- what words or phrases do you use that you know aren't correct, but you can't seem to break from the habit?

My worst habit is splitting infinitives -- sticking something in between to and a verb. Instead of saying "I really need to think about this," I tend to say, "I need to really think about this." Heck, I almost just did it above by typing "I tend to actually say." :)

And sometimes I struggle to not use (there I go again)...

And sometimes I struggle not to use a preposition at the end of a sentence. :)

Shawn....you're struggling too hard!!! But your former English teachers would sure be proud of you!

I ~should~ struggle to use that word 'really' less. Or as I posted in the other thread, stop answering others with 'right' when they're telling me a story. I should just learn to be quiet, and listen intently!

Actually what I ~really~ should do (oops) is improve my listening skills. I'm not the best listener at times.

Leaving prepositions at the end of sentences.

"fixing to"

I used to split infinitives, but I've taught myself not to do it. It never bothers me though when others do it.

As far as punctuation and capitalization go, when I'm in a chatroom, I rarely worry about them. On message boards though, since I'm not as rushed for time, I try to make my posts as correct as possible.

If I say something incorrect, how can I know it's not right?

I know that I do make mistakes, so here's an open invitation to anyone to correct me at any time, anyplace - a free pass.

Thanks in advance!

"I've got to get my work done!" is a shortened version for "I have got to get my work done."

"I've got to go to the store."

I've got to wash the car."

What I really mean to say is, "I need to, or I must"

I've got to send this off before I forget why I went to this thread in the first place!
