Al-Qaeda organization ends when Osama Bin Laden is captured?
I say no because if OBL is captured or killed then another person will step up and be the leader even if the #2 guy in the group now is also captured.I dont see an end to Al-Qaeda in years to come as those people are fanatics and are decided to sacrifice being suicide bombers and there are thousands of young people in that part of the world ( Saudi Arabia,Iran,Yemen,Sudan,Syria,Gaza Strip) to name some places in that part of the world that will join the group.

Al Cruda
has become a movement now rather than just a single terrorist organization therefore the capture of OBL would not end its threat-But it would be nice to see OBL shackled in chains or perhaps stripped naked and tied to a Saguaro Cactus with barbed wire and left to feed the wildlife.

While I don't think Al-Qaeda will cease to exist, the capture of OBL will have a negative impact on the organization as a whole. OBL's deep pockets have enabled the organization to grow into the menace that it's become. You take away the money and the obvious organizational skills and what usually happens is that the fractures begin to take hold. A splintered group is not nearly as effective.

No. AQ is an amorphous group, they don't need one particular leader.
They've got the dollar thing worked out between all of their supporters worldwide so that wouldn't make a difference either. And if we wack him publically, there will most likely be retribution from his supporters (as he has many). The best plan now is to watch all the smaller local cells, the other radical Islamic groups, those on the 'watch list', and be sure they don't move in & out of the country (ours), obtain funding from outside sources (where possible), and hire a boatload more of people in the US to assist with this effort. Helps with the depressed jobmarket also.

Al Qaida doesn't need to "hire" people here; they have been recruiting in inner-city storefront mosques, in our prisons, and in "mainstream" mosques for years, RIGHT UNDER OUR NOSES.
And, they are "importing" more terrorists from Arab countries, via Canada and Mexico every day. Ask the people in AZ...they'll tell you stories about who's gettting into the US just across their borders alone, much less the rest of our country's borders.
OH, YES...there IS a "fifth column" within the US; ask BEER980, Asklahuna, azsnowman, or...me, for that matter. They are here, and growing. And they are angry, and waiting...

Bill, I meant that we (the US) needs to hire people to do those things I suggested to help prevent and track terrorists, not referring to the terror guys themselves. Yes, I know about the border situation as I am reading a book called "Illegals: The Imminent Threat Posted By Our Unsecured US-Mexico Border". It's enough to give you chills. They're not only here, they're in the country in a BIG way. I don't understand what you mean by 'fifth column', sorry... Maybe you could explain a bit more? Thanks.

Corona, the term "fifth column" comes from the Spanish Civil War (1935-38), in which "Falange" (Royalist, aligned with Nazi Germany at the time) Generalissimo Franco had four columns outside Madrid, but mentioned to reporters that he had a 'fifth column" of soldiers/supporters within the besieged city. Madrid fell within days.
Therefore, a "fifth column" refers to enemies within...in this case, the US, waiting for orders to strike.
The REALLY sad thing about this is that I was TOLD about it back in 1985, during my FEMA training in "Terrorist Protocol". Now, we ALL know...

Thank you for that clarification. Actually the sad thing is that I tend to agree with you. They actually did 'terror protocol' way back in '85? I thought that was a relatively new training since all of the Civil Defense stuff was abandoned, disbanded and disassembled during the birth of the Star Wars years. We were taught about the 'new wars' in college and how they wouldn't be fought or won with conventional means or weapons since the wars themselves would not be 'conventional' in the strictest sense, but more as small bands of attackers or 'terrorists.' We thought, no way, we'll scrape someone off the pavement first. Hindsight is humbling, isn't it. It's wise to lean the ways of one's adversaries, wouldn't you say?

Wow!! Lots of good points here, some of which I didn't think about. My thought is No, definitely not. I do believe they will be crippled severely. The money thing will have to prove itself out one way or the other, but OBL is the main money man and obviously still has ways of getting it where it needs to be for their now apparently limited(or are they just laying low before the next big one?besides Spain if it has been proven they are connected)attacks. He is also apparently the organizational genius behind it too, what with the wonderful education our country has so graciously allowed him and others to get. Not saying they aren't active and not saying they aren't attacking, just they SEEM a little limited. Have they lulled us into a false sense of security?
