Not guilty by reason of insanity & look what happened!

:grr: :grr: :grr:
My heart breaks for what that child went through at the hands of this scumbag. :( :grrr:

------------

A man accused of capital murder in the death of his girlfriend's six year old son is spending his first night in the Jefferson County Jail after arriving from Baytown at about 8 p.m. Friday.
The child's body was found inside an oven in the family's home.
While Beaumont detectives were escorting 27 year old Kenneth Pierott to a patrol car for the ride back to Jefferson County, a Houston television reporter asked Pierott, "Kenneth, you have anything to say?"
"Yeah, wait a minute. I ain't dying, plead guilty," Pierott answered.
A correctional officer inside the Jefferson County Jail tells KFDM News Pierott has been quiet and cooperative.
The officer tells us Saturday morning, Pierott will appear before a justice of the peace inside the jail and bond will be set.
The 27 year old is accused of capital murder in the death of his girlfriend's six year old son.
Police say the child's mother found Tre-Devin Odom's body inside their home on Amarillo Street early Friday morning.
Relatives and neighbors say the body was inside an oven.
Police removed the oven from the home and seized it as evidence.
Authorities say the child's mother woke up and smelled gas, and relatives and neighbors say she found her son's body in the oven.
Authorities say the oven wasn't on, and there were no visible signs of injury.
A preliminary autopsy report indicates the child died of asphyxia.
The woman's four year old son was unharmed.
Police say Pierott is not the father of Tre-Devin but is the younger son's father.
Police say Pierott left the home early this morning and drove to his mother's home on Campus near Park, then left when she wasn't there.
A Beaumont police SWAT team surrounded the home for about two hours before going inside and discovering Pierott wasn't there.
Authorities say he drove to his father's home in Houston and got into an argument with him. They say the father called police and Pierott was taken into custody and jailed at a court building in Baytown.
Beaumont police were notified and drove to Baytown to interview Pierott.
A judge arraigned Pierott late this afternoon, and Beaumont detectives then drove him back to the Jefferson County Jail.
Investigators in Baytown say Pierott has confessed to the killing.
The suspect has a history of mental problems.
A deputy in Baytown says Pierott told him that he "wasn't taking his medication, he had no intention of taking it, and besides that, he had just killed his girlfriend's small child."
In 1996, Kenneth Pierott's mother told KFDM News her son needed help.
That was after he killed his handicapped sister.
In a KFDM News report that aired in December of 1996, his mother Urnistine Pierott told us, "tragically, it cost me two children in one day. I lost Stephanie to death and lost Kenneth to the system."
Police say Pierott beat Stephanie to death with a metal dumbell from a weight set.
When police arrived at his mother's apartment, she said Pierott was running around naked claiming he was God.
"I know if he realized what he was doing he wouldn't have done it," Urnistine Pierott told us at the time.
Pierott was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
He spent six months in Vernon and Rusk State Hospitals in 1998. Mental health expert Sally Walden says it is not unusual that he was released.
"They have to have done well in a treatment program, said Sally Walden with Spindletop MHMR.
"They have to have the support of the community and they have to have a follow up plan in the community that they will comply with when they are discharged," said Walden.
In addition to the death investigation and the most recent homicide investigation, he was also charged with a misdemeanor assault against a family member in 2002 and forgery in 2000.
He got a total of four years probation.
"This is certainly not typical behavior. You wouldn't see people being discharged back into the community," said Walden.
Walden also says many mental patients aren't violent, and the death of the child today puts a stigma on patients who are taking medication and living productive lives.

I know Brian. There really aren't words... :grr:

Here's the article that was released before the one I posted.
Child Found Dead in Oven; Cause of Death Asphyxiation
Reported by Scott Lawrence
April 16, 2004 - 1:13PM

Beaumont police are releasing the name of a child in connection with a homicide investigation.
The six year old child's name is Trey Deven Odoms.
And Beaumont Police say the preliminary cause of death is asphyxiation.
Relatives say the child's mother found her son's body in the oven of the family's home.
Beaumont police officer Carman Apple says police were called to a home in the 2800 block of Amarillo at about 7 a.m. Friday. Officers believed that the child was a homicide victim. There were no apparent physical injuries to the child. During a news conference Friday afternoon, Beaumont police said the cause of death, according to a medical examiner, is asphyxiation.
According to the 30 year old mother of Trey Odoms, she last saw the child alive at about 9 p.m. Thursday when she put him to bed. Apple says the woman's 27 year old boyfriend, Kenneth Pierott and her four year old son were also in the home with her. The mother said she awoke at about 6:45 this morning because she was hot and smelled gas. She found that the oven was on and turned it off. Police say Pierott left the home in a 2001 white Ford Contour. The mother then found the child's body.
Relatives told KFDM News the child's body was found in the oven.
Police thought Pierott might have information about the death of the child. They began to look for him. Officers went to his mother's home on Campus Street to look for him. They found the car in the driveway. No one answered calls to the home, so police called the S.W.A.T. to go inside. No one was there.
Police were then contacted by the Harris County Constable's Office. They had just taken Pierott into custody in the 6300 block of Scotch Pine in Houston.
Pierott was at his father's house and police say he'd been involved in a disturbance with his father. He was taken into custody for outstanding warrents in Baytown. Detectives from the Beaumont Police Department were sent to Houston to interview Pierott.

And this one was after the original one I posted.

Capital Murder Suspect Arraigned In Jefferson County
Reported by Sally MacDonald
April 17, 2004 - 11:00PM

A Justice of the Peace in Jefferson County has arraigned 27-year-old Kenneth Pierott on accusation of capital murder in the death of his girlfriend's young son. Pierott is being held in the Jefferson County jail on $750,000 bond. A Harris County constable says his office was called to Pierott's father's home Friday morning in Baytown when Pierott wouldn't take his medication. Investigators said Pierott told them he never takes his medication and quoted him as saying, 'I just killed my girlfriend's baby and put it in the oven. Beaumont detectives escorted Pierott from Baytown back to Jefferson County last night. A correctional officer tells KFDM News Pierott has been quiet and cooperative. Police say the child's mother found Tre-Devin Odom's body inside an oven in their home on Amarillo Street. Preliminary autopsy reports indicate the child died of asphyxia. According to police records, this is not the first time Pierott has been charged with murder. In 1996 he pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the beating death of his physically handicapped sister. Pierott spent a total of six months in two state mental hospitals. He was released in 1998.

Of all the scumbags that deserve to be staked out over an fire ant bed and honey poured over them , then disturb the ants to allow them to find the scumbags, this one deserves this sentence the most.

I think insanity is bogus about 90% of the time, very very few are so mentally defective that they do not understand what they are doing. Of course someone is basically insane-ie out of theri mind when commiting a horrific crime, that is a gimmie, would we suppose you were thinking straight when you hacked someone to death-of course not; still does not wash to excuse it via insantiy.

DayLily, you sure are being nice to this guy!!! That I consider to be light sentence for someone like that. I must leave it at that or risk permanent banning from the internet, much less Storm2k!!!!

I have not problem with the insanity defense, if the person is put away for life with no possiblity of parole. Insane and all fixed up doesn't change the fact that they killed someone!

Learned about the 90% bogus part back in my America Gov't couse's judiciary unit. Be aquitted on reason of insanity doesn't mean you head for the car in the parking garage and go home. No, it means that the person is transported to a mental institution for a VERY long time. Even though it SHOULD not be an easy out, I think instanity is rediculous still.

"I must have been crazy when I stuffed that boy in the oven"

Well, no sh*t Sherlock, what else were you-inhuman, insensitive, criminal and murderous. Being all in a froth at the moment does not lessen nor excuse the act. Again, insanity really means not knowing the wrongfullness of your act morning, noon and night. We all get a bit insane at times, we just do not harbour the internal viciousness that gets unleashed to permit such a horrid act to occur. Again, killing is too good for him but for right now it's the best response we got.

I hope the girlfriend had no prior knowledge of his mental shortfallings. Not that she should be blamed, but hey, if he murdered his own sister AND GOT AWAY WITH IT (i.e. no jail time), what's to stop him from doing it again to anyone? What a tragedy! Lock him up and throw away the key!

Ugh! Just so sad... :(

KFDM News has learned the Jefferson County grand jury has indicted Kenneth Periott on a charge of murder in the death of six year old Tre-Devin Odoms.
The grand jury began meeting this morning, and Debbie Folse with the Jefferson County District Clerk's Office told KFDM News the indictment was officially returned at about noon.
Investigators say because Tre-Devin was six years old, the charge is murder. Under Texas law, a child homicide victim must be less than six for the charge to be capital murder.
The boy was killed last Friday at his home in the 28 hundred block of Amarillo.
A preliminary autopsy report shows he died of asphyxia.
Investigators say the child's mother found his body inside an oven, but it was not on.
Tre-Devin Odoms will be buried Saturday afternoon in Jasper.
The 27 year old Pierott was arrested after leaving the murder scene and going to his father's home in Harris County.
Kenneth Lee Pierott is accused of killing Tre-Devin Odoms, who was left overnight in an oven at the boy's Beaumont home.
The boy, the oldest son of Pierott's girlfriend, was found dead the next morning.
"Kenneth Lee Pierott, Jr. told (his brother) he placed Tre in the oven on 600 degrees and left him there all night," Sheila K. Barton, a detective with the Beaumont Police Department, said in an affidavit Tuesday.
According to the court document, Pierott believed the child was "draining the life" from his 2-year-old son, Jacory, and "he needed to kill Trey so that Jacory could breathe."
Preliminary autopsy results indicated the boy died of asphyxiation. He had no burn marks or visible injuries, Justice of the Peace Paul Brown said.
Pierott's mother, Urestine Pierott, described her son, Kenneth, as "a sweet, young man that any mother would have trusted," but who suffers from a mental illness and isn't in his "right mind."
She told The Associated Press she first realized her son was mentally ill in 1996 when he killed her oldest child.
Stephanie Pierott, 25, who suffered from cerebral palsy, was fatally beaten with a dumbbell. Kenneth Pierott was found innocent by reason of insanity for her slaying and was released from a state hospital in 1998.
KFDM News will have more on the indictment on Live at 5 and KFDM News at 6
