The new Dick Van Dyke episode

#1 Postby Miss Mary » Tue May 11, 2004 7:12 am

Do we have any Dick Van Dyke Show fans here? If so, are you tuning into the new episode airing tonight (May 11, 9 p.m. EST)? Read all about it here:

http://www.cbs.com/specials/dick_van_dyke/

Lately, our VCR's are working overtime to tape all the finales airing right now. And I'm worn out from staying up past 11 catching up and then getting up at 5:40 everyday! But I hate to miss this show, just the same. What a crazy time of year - my daughters have recitals/banquet dinners/meetings/parties to attend. Not to mention softball double header games! I imagine DVD wanted to take advantage of May ratings. But I would have preferred watching a show like this that doesn't have to be aired right now, in say February, when it's not so busy.

Then I saw a commercial on about a new Carol Burnette special/reunion. Another show I liked way back when!

Ah heck, who needs sleep!!! Sleep is highly overrated!!!! LOL

Was that "Little Fairies on the Prairies?" "LOL!" Sorry.....

Tis a shame, most of the stars from the *good ol' days* have been called home, I'd LOVE to see a Gunsmoke reunion, Grizzly Adams AND Little House on the Prairie, but most of the stars, like I said, are GONE!

Hey Dennis - I was a fan of Little House!!!!

My fave show of all-time still is The Waltons. But they've had many reunions shows. So I'm good there.

Shame that the DVD Show waited this long for a reunion episode! Buddy will be very missed tonight, I predict. That was a one-of-a-kind character. Similar to Barney Fife.

A "Little House" reunion would be awesome, but I don't know how they could tie in Michael Landon's death to the story unless Laura Ingalls Wilder's father actually died at a young age also. Obviously, I don't mean "young" young, but if Caroline is still alive and obviously not elderly, it would be weird not to have Charles there if he actually lived into his elder years.

But then again, it could be a reunion of the children and their friends. Laura and Almanzo, Mary and Adam, Grace, Carrie, Albert, Willie, and so on. Did you guys know that Linwood Boomer (Adam) was the creator of "Malcolm in the Middle?" Obviously, Nellie would be a widow because the actor who portrayed Percival has died. Patrick Laborteaux is doing JAG now, but I'm sure he could come back as Andy Garvey.

My question is - where would they meet? In the last episode (a classic finale!), they blew up the whole town except for the "Little House," which was destroyed by a fire years later.

Shawn, you pose some very good arguments as to how Little House could pull off a reunion. One that would make sense. To not have Pa Ingalls there would leave a huge void. Now does ML have a son that looks very much like him? If so, that could work. Forgot about the town being blown up. Maybe it's best to imagine where the folks of Walnut Grove would be, in our imaginations. I wasn't aware that the actor who played Adam is ressponsible for Malcolm! Malcome is the opposite of Little House! Similar to Ron Howard's Arrested Developement - another show I keep reading that we need to watch. I've watched only part of one episode and couldn't get past that the narrotor's voice I kept hearing was Opie and Richie!!!! AD is a one wacky show though.

PS - now that was odd, when I tried to edit this post, for typos, it went into a quote. Until I edited it again, taking out the quoted parts. Quoting oneself.....crazy, maybe I was seeing things!!!!
