Okay, I got stuck in the disbelief zone and couldn't stomach watching anymore without feeling like it was a really bad dream.
What was up with the storm surge hitting NY and then freezing? Are we to believe it wasn't a hurricane surge? How does something like that happen? Seems pretty far fetched to me.
But then again, space travel, life-saving surgery on in-utero fetuses, and terrorist attacks on our own soil used to be unbelievable stuff that we once thought was only possible in movies.

I know.

I'm sure if I see the movie and hear the "explanations" as it happens, I'll feel more into it. The preview was just as cheesy as a really bad Star Trek episode to me.

I'll still give it a chance. Any excuse for movie popcorn.

My daughter and I watched it, after That 70s show on Fox last night. It was a very impressive preview. She now wants to see it the theaters - FYI, we rarely catch movies first time around! But she seems to think we'll have time for this movie Memorial Day weekend - we only have 3 graduation parties to go to. Anyway, special effects are good. And as usual a family is apart, and one parent is in charge - naturally. Question - did the man drilling into the iceberg, accidentally cause all of the sudden wx changes? That's what my daughter kept wanting to know - did one man do all that? She also thought Dennis Quaid was a goner and couldn't understand why I wasn't worried he would die. I said Laura he's the star of the movie! He can't die 2 minutes into it!!! Yes, I'm a disaster movie veteran. Been watching them for a long, long time now. LOL

At first, I thought he was drilling and then a quake happened, just by coincidence.
But then, after the storm surge hit NY and froze over and Quaid's character was trudging around with his buddies in the same arctic tundra-looking setting and attire, I figured the opening scene was a flash-forward. So I can't tell if maybe they were never actually up north and that drilling scene was part of NY or what? It doesn't make sense, but then again, not of it does yet.
