New Show... "Seriously Dude I'm Gay"

#1 Postby JQ Public » Fri May 14, 2004 1:16 pm

Is this not the dumbest show idea you've ever heard? not to mention offensive. I really think people have run out of ideas. What happened to good television?

The Washington Post wrote:Fox issued a stunning news release yesterday for a two-hour reality special to air in June called "Seriously, Dude, I'm Gay" in which, the network said, two heterosexual men will try to convince various people that they are gay. In the news release, Fox described the notion of a straight man "turning gay overnight" as "a heterosexual male's worst nightmare."

For one week, the two straight guys will "immerse themselves in 'the gay lifestyle,' " the network said.

*runs in and tickles JQ*

In case you forgot, I tickle anyone who uses certain buzzwords in post titles. It's been a while since I've had to do that!

Seriously Dude, this is stupid! The "gay lifestyle?" *scratching head* I suppose I should watch because I still have no clue what that is.

Aside from the obvious (the act), what could they possibly do that's different from how they already live now? What are they gonna do -- dress flamboyantly? Dance? Decorate? I can already hear the rainbow crowd now, protesting about how these guys are trying to perpetuate the stereotypes. And yet, the ones protesting will be doing that just fine on their own.

At least it's on Fox. Aside from early American Idol and now-cancelled Xena, I really never have watched the network.

How stupid. Personifying stereotypes that don't exist in the first place.

NOW THEY ARE SCRAPING BELOW THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL FOR SOMETHING TO BROADCAST!!! Are you sure this isn't some TERRIBLE JOKE!!!???? :?: :?:

It is OFFENSIVE TO ME that some IDIOT feels the need to justify their existance by promoting something like this. Duckie said it best!!! What lifestyle? Unless someone is flamboyantly "GAY" or comes out and tells me they are "GAY" how would I have any idea what their lifestyle is? :?:

STUPID is putting it very mildly!!!! :grr:

When I saw that title, three letters popped in my head which turned out to be correct: FOX.

FOX Television network is notorious of spewing garbage like this out onto the airwaves.

Yup, among others. :)

I can easily say that I've only really ever watched and enjoyed four shows on Fox, now that I've looked back at their listings since '86 -- MadTV, 21 Jump Street (don't laugh -- it was a cop show!), The Tracy Ullman Show, and Xena (which was syndicated and not on the Fox network, but on the KY Fox affiliate).

I've seen a few episodes of American Idol (mostly the first season), Boston Public, Ally McBeal, 90210 (who can honestly say they haven't seen it once or twice?), and King of the Hill. Never really enjoyed X-Files, Simpsons, Cops, Melrose, Party Of Five, or Married...With Children (a handful of Fox's few successful series).

Here are the rest of their programs:

Some years ago now, the New York Newsday did an article on weather observers. As I was contacted by the Newsday staff and gave them a list of weather observers in metro New York City...the Bronx, Manhattan, even in Queens, I think.

The article got great coverage...photos and the whole nine yards. Toward the middle of the story, however, the author began wandering off the topic and extrapolating in some illogical way how weather observers must have a twisted sexual history or some issues with mom or dad in their lives...maybe in childhood, maybe as adults. I was VERY upset by how it played back...mostly because I encouraged these observers to take advantage of the time in the spotlight. The "deviant" remark was not enough to ruin an otherwise nice piece, but it was the author's license to do it in the first place that bothered me. The observers themselves were not all that upset...and actually found it humorous.

Anyway...that being said, how about a new reality show..."Guys That Love the Skies, and Girls That Love the Swirls:

Perhaps as couples they could play "Twister" together.

That is at least as good a premise as the one offered up here by the network.

Yeh...it looks like the article did turn into a all out attack on FOX, but it many respects it was deserved for even thinking about putting on a show like this. Don't you think Steve?

Sorry Duck! I don't think I was here when you posted about tickling people. I decided to do a little word search on "tickle" and you mentioned it sometime in January. I don't think i was posting that much then?!
