General question

#1 Postby weatherlover427 » Mon May 17, 2004 5:57 am

Why do some people sign their posts with their names? Isn't that why we have signatures? It doesn't look right to me to have things like that manually tacked on hundreds of times when they could just as easily be tacked on where they are supposed to be by the forum software. I don't do it because I don't like it, not do I like doing it. I only do it if I want an official look. But I can't make a rule about it because people would think I was a stupid idiot.

Thoughts?

PS - mods/admins/members, don't take this the wrong way; I just want to gather some input on why this is done. It is not intended as an "OMGoodness why do you do this ROTFLMBO Hahahaha LOL!!! :ROTFL:  "-type topic. ;)

I would say it is their particular posting style and it is second nature. They may have posted on another board where there were no signatures.

Joshual - I've been typing for years, decades really. A post feels like a note or letter that I've written. So I sign it. And way back when, when TLC gave me this nickname, I didn't want people to think I had some overinflated ego or something, callling myself 'Miss Mary', so I quickly signed posts with just....

Mary

PS - hope this clears up why I sign posts!!!! And see there, I'm also another member who does the PS thing, again this feels like a personal note. :-)

I find putting my name in my signature does not work well for me... I like to clutter it with other stuff.

My son set the tone for my signatures. He'll send me a very personal note from work and use his automated work signature to sign his name.

In his case, the personal note loses part of its meaning when it ends up with....

"Thanks and Best Regards,"

I prefer the more personal touch...but to each his own.

I sign each of my posts with my name under it. My username is mrschad, but that's not my first name, obviously. I sign with my first name so that someone can refer to me by name if they so choose. Plus I use a signature line that contains a phrase that I feel has great meaning to it. It's just my style, which I like.
