Paramount basically bought the rights to Andy Kaufman's "Foreign Man" character, and gave him the name of Latka Gravas. Latka wasn't exactly the same character as "Foreign Man", and Andy himself hated Latka and "Taxi."

Andy Kaufman was SO much more than Latka. The man was a misunderstood genius.

Where did those 20 years go? Life was so much simpler back then that Latka was a believable character.
