Hurricane Project Hacked

#1 Postby DROliver » Sun Jul 04, 2004 9:57 pm

Today around 11 am my site the Hurricane Project was hacked. The only thing they did was redirect the index page, yet we can not figure out how since we cannot find the script. Also it is hard to determine if this was a pro or amatuer that did this.

Take a look:

http://hurricaneproject.com

We are taking this as a warning and the authorities have been contacted.Over the past few days there have been hacks on other weather related sites,is this related we don't know yet. They never had access to the server, they explotied away through a certain program onto the index page.Even a newbie hacker could have done this.

The server's firewalls are 100% secure and we now have a new DOS protection system that will protect us from large DOS attacks. Our security team went through all 3 community based servers today and found all systems up and running. They are now running checks on the other 590 servers.

It is sad these peole have to do childish deeds to settle a grudge.Their world is about to change fast,so to their buddies who frequent this board please let them know or if you see this through your proxies it would be a good idea to start saving bail money.

Peace

Steve O.

i don't know much about hacks but it looks to be a redirect so perhaps they didn't hack you or where your information is stored but rather your domain registrar?

Why would someone want to hack a weather site that is important and at the same time educational for the people??????

Check the Meta tags on your page, you should be able to fix that rather easily.

I'm so sorry Steve. I really think that hackers should be treated as terrorists and have the book thrown at them. :grr:
