Need to talk... :(

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Sun Jul 25, 2004 2:40 pm

I'm feeling kinda sad today.. This has nothing to do with my friends death {at least not entirely}...

My sister just came over here to get some of Mom's stuff since I will be moving in the next few days.. I personally wish she would have taken all of Mom's stuff with her.. Now I feel like I'll be carrying excess baggage and what not.. Even though all of Mom's stuff that's left here and a few of my things are either getting stored and some are even being trashed.

Anyway.. She has a cute 4 year old son.. {my nephew of course}.. and I haven't seen him since Christmas Day of 03... You'd think he'd be a little happier to see me.. But the 1st thing he said when he came in with my sister is.. "do you have any food".. I know it's cute.. and I know it's probably going to be laughable by tomorrow.. But that made me feel bad because I feel like I have slipped off that kids' radar. He played around with some of my stuff. told me how he starts school next year.. But not once did he say "Uncle John" or even "John" for that matter.. Made me feel like to him I don't exist..

Mom told me he asked her if she had any food when my sis brought him to see her last week.. lol.. But for me it just didn't have the same laughable effect... I know I'm probably making a mountain out of a mole hill.. But.. oh well..

Yes today does mark 5 1/2 years since Linda Couch passed away.. I know it's 5 and a "1/2"... but I think it's affecting me more today then I wanna admit. Maybe next chance I get.. I'll take a trip down to her roadside memorial that's down my old HS.. She was such a young, pretty girl with a bright future.

It's funny how my Sunday School teacher asked our class the opinion this morning of why is it we always see the good people dying young and the bad ones living on.. or the bad ones getting more rewards or better care than the good ones at times..

I think another reason I'm sad is because I'll be leaving here.. {not the apt.} but this side of town. I could care less about this apt. It's not mine! I always wonder when and if a roomie will come in. I've started to establish a bond with this side of town. My church is here, my grocery store is here.. heck.. my new walking route for exercise is here. I know I'll be headed back to my old community.. But none of my old friends are there anymore. I know the 1 I'll be with and his family both really care about me.. But.. It just won't feel the same..

I have already vowed to return to this side of town when I get some $ saved up and can afford it. But I won't be returning to this complex. I have had nothing but negative memories here.

I think I'm done venting now..

John... (((HUGS)))

Change can be very difficult. You are strong, however, and I know that you will pull through this. It sounds like you have some people who can provide you with the support that you need!

I hope you feel better soon. I know how you feel. I have those days sometimes too. Just remember that there is always someone listening when you need to talk... 24/7...

John, sorry you're feeling so blue. About your little nephew, his behavior was completely normal. Everytime my 5 year old niece comes over she always asks for food. Little kids love goodies, and they know they're more likely to get a treat when they ask someone other than mom or dad. I wouldn't worry about him not addressing you by Uncle John either. Little kids are unfamiliar with formality, so when they address you, sometimes they just say "hey". I'm sure you're little nephew loves you dearly. If it's possible to visit him more often, I'm sure you'll be amazed at the affection he has to offer.

Change is difficult for most everyone. I know you feel attached to everything you have now, but think about all the new attachments that are to come. You're growing and are going to experience new things. This chapter in your life is closing and a new one is beginning. I know you'll make the most of it. Good luck John.

Actually I feel like an old chapter is being reopened.. Because I'm moving back to my old neighborhood lol..

I know I shouldn't worry about my nephew.. or that little thing not being addressed like he usually does.. I'm sure he loves me dearly as well..

Oh well.. I do feel a little better than I did when I wrote this.. But still a little down.. :(

John, your sister should have corrected your nephew as soon as he asked for food without greeting you properly. Perhaps it's her behavior that ought to have saddened you - not his.

Sometimes we let children get away with too much. The little ones need guidance and we adults sometimes fail them miserably.

Anyway, hang in there buddy. The sad feelings will pass with time. Time is a wonderful healer.

"Time heals all wounds".. I thought the thing with the food was kinda funny.. But at the same time kinda sad.. Because it showed he had some rudeness..

He could have said "Uncle John, do you have any food?" or I would have even accepted "John, do you have any food".. But not just flat out "do you have any food" lol..

I know I'm probably making a mountain out of a mole hill.. It just irks me because it seemed like he either A.lacks a few manners or B. doesn't even know I exist or something.. I don't know..

John,

It sounds like my nephew in a way...and he's 7. He likes hanging out w/ his Grandpa for some reason more than me. I reckon it's my Asperger Syndrome that causes me to have poor interaction w/ kids. :(
