6 Killed in Arizona As SUV Flees Deputies

PHOENIX (AP) - A stolen truck filled with suspected illegal immigrants sped away from deputies and rolled over at a busy intersection near an Army post Saturday, causing an 11-car crash that killed six people and seriously injured 15, sheriff's officials said.

Passengers were thrown from the truck as it struck a center median and began to spiral, hitting vehicles waiting at a turn lane, Deputy Chief Randy Redmond of the Sierra Vista Fire Department said. Investigators think the truck was traveling at about 90 mph when it lost control near Fort Huachuca in southeastern Arizona, he said.

At least 20 people were in the truck, Redmond said.

"This is the worst multiple fatality accident I've been on," Redmond said. "To have people pinned, the huge language barrier, it was really a horrible, horrible scene." The impact tore the roofs from some cars and trapped some motorists in their vehicles, Redmond said.

Five people died at the scene. Two people were flown from the scene and another 20 were transported by ambulance to hospitals, where one victim later died, according to the fire department. Cochise County deputies believed the truck was carrying illegal immigrants. They first saw the vehicle driving out of a brushy area along a highway and trailed it for a short time, sheriff's spokeswoman Carol Capas said.

Deputies called for backup and stopped chasing the vehicle after the suspect sped and drove away recklessly, Capas said.

Authorities then spotted the truck heading north on State Route 90. Sierra Vista police officers used tire deflation devices to slow the vehicle, said Frank Valenzuela, a spokesman for the Public Safety Department.

The driver lost control shortly before noon at a busy intersection near the east entrance to Fort Huachuca, an Army post next to Sierra Vista. Traffic in the area was diverted to Tombstone while authorities investigated.

The vehicle had been reported stolen in Phoenix, Capas said.

Vehicle-related deaths of undocumented immigrants have been on the rise in Arizona, many of them involving overloaded vehicles used by immigrant smugglers.

Also in the past year or so, authorities have noticed that stolen vehicles are being used more frequently for smuggling human cargo.

That is what happens when the Borders are not controlled and when the Government refuses to secure them. Our own highways down here are not safe-if you don't have the risk of being taken out by some money hungry human smuggler in an accident, you might get caught in the crossfire of an OK Corral shootout on the Interstate between rival smuggling gangs as has happened down here in AZ. We need to close the Borders and track down the smugglers and draw and quarter them. I can guarantee that this incident is going to anger the people down here against both the Feds and the illegals even more.

BTW: the intersection where the "accident" happened is only 1.5 miles from my house and is where I used to go every day when I worked on Post. I use " for accident since I'm not at all sure that the driver didn't deliberately cause it so that he could escape since he was observed running from the scene on foot into the Brush on the East Range of the Post-one could hope that the MPs shoot him on sight although it might be best if he were caught to stand trial on 6 counts of vehicular homicide.

The numbers of injured are now up to 22 and the photos of the "accident" scene resemble the aftermath of a car bombing in Israel or Iraq. It was bound to happen sooner or later since in recent incidents these slimes have driven through residential areas in town at speeds of up to 100 mph.
We need to use some old time Wild West justice on these smugglers and I have a perfect tree in my yard to string them up from.

There's no need for an incident like that to occur. Unfortunately people on this board are right: the only thing these idiots understand is death. I'd like to see how the crime rate in this country would decrease if public drawing and quartering were to be re-instated. Bet it'd have SOME effect...

An update-the death toll has been lowered to 5-two US citizens and 3 lawbreakers (illegals). The driver has been ID'd and is in a Tucson hospital. the Police are very anxious to get their hands on him. Potential charges include felony endangerment and 5 counts of vehicular homicide-the Sheriff wants the DA to to throw the book at him to ensure that he receives Life in Prison. The guy was driving like a maniac from the time he blew through a stop sign at Ash Canyon and Highway 92 (a very dangerous thing to do) the deputies backed off because of excessive speed but he never slowed down. He had 20-21 lawbreakers in the pickup truck and was estimated to be going at least 90 mph blowing through stop lights and stop signs in a congested traffic area-had this been on a weekday it could have been much worse. Total injury count is 23 with 11 very critically injured. Remember, you vote for Kerry you give guys like this a shot a citizenship, vote for Bush then it's amnesty

Well, one of the injured had to be revived so I would presume that person is still in ICU. However, whether or not anyone else dies from this accident there WILL be more US Citizen's killed in either accidents like this because the Coyotes don't care about anyone's life but their own or because of the escalating violence against US Citizens that's occurring down here. Remember, Bush, Kerry and the US Government have told you to go to H*** if you don't like the current situation of their plans to reward lawbreakers with amnesty of citizenship.

This is just sad. I hope Bush reconsitters his amnesty plan. I think he did it just to try to court the hispanic vote. I dont even give a flying flip about Kerry.
