It must have to do with financial levels and who's willing to give. I work at a "popular" casino in Gulfport, and am quite involved in the United Way campaigns there. Over the years, most of the employees who make the least amout of money always contribute their fair share (1 hour's pay per month). In contrast, those who make the most money (excluding the executives) contribute very little - if at all. The lower-waged folks far "out give" the higher-waged ones!!
Point is, since we are among the poorest states, it seems to me those with little means are the most willing to donate because they know what it feels like to "do without". I'm proud to be a Mississippian!!
