Threat Reported Against Prince George's County Police
Officers Request Extra Backup On Crime Scenes
PALMER PARK, Md. -- Police officials in Prince George's County, Md., say they are taking a very ominous threat against their officers very seriously.
Law enforcement officials say they have received tips indicating that a violent street gang known as MS-13 may be planning to ambush and kill police officers.
Officials say it's just a tip, but they are taking special precautions. Police said, however, that they want to emphasize they are going to continue to do their job, meaning they will be on the street arresting criminals.
However, officials said that officers are asking for additional backup units when they respond to crime scenes in light of this threat.
"You take a threat like this seriously," said Cpl. Percel Alston of the Fraternal Order of Police. "It's under investigation and I don't know all the particulars at this time but our officers have called here and they are concerned and I am in communication with the command staff as well."
In the last six months, there have been several gang-related shootings and killings in the county. Most recently a young girl was shot and killed in a cemetery in Adelphi that was linked to MS-13.
