Oh I see, how they treat the bums.

Who cares about the bums?! And Key West?? I mean, they can go up to the Everglades and do what all the other people did in history when they couldn't find refuge, and live with the aligators.

Ocala should be on the list, because we have so much construction going on. If you can pick up a hammer you can find employment here. Rent-a-drunk staffing companies are popping up like dazies.

Our library had a bench and the bums slept there, but then they put a metal bar to keep them from being able to lay down. I thought that was meanspirited. But what are we supposed to do, give them money? Our bums don't even beg.

I moved from Los Angeles County to South Florida last year and I have been shocked since I got here how nasty the drivers are down here!!!! My husband always asks me, "honey, why are you still surprised?" everytime a driver does something mean here. I even got flipped off here!!

In Los Angeles, the drivers were stupid, but IMO not mean! I can't believe that Miami and Ft. Laud are not on the list. We were all stuck in traffic together, so people let eachother in the lane!

Here they ride the next person's bumper if you put your turn signal on, so you can't get in!! Consequently. most people don't use turn signals!!

I could go on and on....

you guys are TOTALLY missing the point!!! I knew this would happen. The entire story is about how these cities treat their HOMELESS people, not how cute the girls are (though a lot of cute girls are mean as snakes) or how mean the drivers are....

LOL

well..to be honest I didn't read the article...the topic post I thought, spoke for itself.

An observation about homeless people and how they are treated in Atlanta:

I'm not sure how to define "treatment", but if letting drunk homeless people camp outside establishments such as Dunkin Donuts, pan handle not for their next sandwich, but to replenish the nearly empty bottle of whiskey beside them, then I guess Atlanta is very kind to their homeless people.

Myself, being a mean Yankee, rudely asked said drunk to move his a** out of the way so my wife didn't have to step over him.

I hate when they're standing there in front of a convenient store with a cigarette in one hand and a beer in the other (wrapped in a brown sack, as if I don't know what it is) and ask me for money to get something to eat. It's like, well, he had money for the BEER! If he was hungry, why didn't he buy food in the first place? I refuse to give them money, but I'll offer to buy them a sandwich or something in the store. Some actually refuse.

On the other hand, there have been two occasions where I left a restaurant with friends and with a doggie bags, and someone asked if we had any leftovers we could spare. So we handed them over.

Excellant! I wouldn't have a problem helping this type either, although I might ask, (just to satisfy my own curiosity) if they have been turned down at the nearest shelter or soup kitchen. Again, not to be mean, but to understand why anyone would need to beg for food, when there are organizations ready to help.

Yeah, I do usually suggest the Salvation Army (the only homeless shelter here on the island). But apparently, they have strict rules and some people are turned away or refuse to stay there. They only have intake personnel until 7:00 pm, so if a person doesn't get there in time, they're stuck out on the street. A person can't be intoxicated or high when they check in or at any time while they're staying there. And the one I've read that some people have a problem with -- they must attend SA church services on Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and Wednesday evening in order to stay there. Freedom of religion doesn't apply at the SA and they won't accept a bulletin from another church service as proof that the person at least attended some form of spiritual fellowship.

They can come to Ocala and work at Rent-a-Drunk Inc., for 6 dollars an hour and around 10 hours a day, more than enough for a hotel room.

But here's the problem with that survey...

I may live NEAR Atlanta.....but don't live in the city of Atlanta, where they have a tremendous problem with the homeless and vagrants. Out here in suburban Douglas county, it's far different.

I'll agree that Atlanta is a mean city, both many of the citizens and the way homeless folks are treated by city leadership (extremely incompetent leadership IMO)....but for a website or magazine to label the entire metropolitan area....which covers 15 counties...as "mean" is incorrect.

Out here in the "burbs", many churches assist with care for the less fortunate....as do many of the citizens. The citizens here are generally much friendlier than in Atlanta....will usually try to assist folks in need (find homeless families a place to stay).

Texas?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I resent that!!

Dallas, TX...I can understand that because of a dysfunctional mayor.

At least my hometown's not listed.

I am surprised my city of Omaha is not on here! People are just plain mean sometimes, and it feels like a small New York sometimes. People pass you on the street and sometimes give a rotten look.
