Stolen SUV left in Manteca with pipe bomb left inside
A stolen car found on the 600 block of Northgate Avenue Sunday night had a curious piece of luggage in it.
A pipe bomb, according to Manteca Police.
At around 10 p.m. Sunday night, Manteca Police officer Chris Mraz found the 1994 green Chevy Blazer stolen out of Modesto in a church parking lot, and proceeded to call out the Manteca Police bomb squad for disposal of the small bomb.
The Manteca bomb squad used a pulley system to extract the bomb from the back seat of the car, then placed it in a protective bag -- called a bomb bag. They took it to the police department's training fields southwest of Manteca and imploded it.
Police indicated that the car was stolen from a private residence in Modesto.
