Tsunamis not only could hit the West Coast of the US but they HAVE hit the West Coast of the US-the last one being the 1964 Tsunami that resulted in damage and fatalities in Crescent City CA. There are also underwater thrust faults off the SoCA coast that have caused local sea rises in the past following earthquakes on them. The Triple Point Plate junction off of Mendocino is also a worrisome area especially since it serves as the anchor point for the Cascadia Subduction Zone.

IMO, anyone who lives near water is at risk of these killers.

Well, it should be noted that prior to this recent event the deadliest tsunami on record with 60000 fatalities was an ATLANTIC one-the tsunami that completed the job down done by the November 1, 1755 earthquake in Lisbon Portugal.

I'd be gone if that was the case...since I only live 3 or so miles from the beach...

A locally generated tsunami from an offshore earthquake near, say, Santa Catalina Island would arrive on the LA area beachs in 10-20 minutes.

Well Santa Catalina island is only 26 miles off the coast, add on the 3 or 4 miles that I am inland, so it only has 30 or so miles to travel...
