MINOT, N.D. -- Three dozen children who had been enjoying an all-night New Year's Eve party in North Dakota were injured in a sledding accident.
A police spokesman said the injured children were part of a larger group taking part in the party, hosted by a religious group. He said early Saturday morning, more than 100 children were using cardboard boxes to slide down a hill, despite a sign posted on the hill that prohibited sledding.
Police said about eight sleds, carrying up to 12 riders each, went down the hill in quick succession. Some of them hit rocks, a light pole and each other.
A hospital spokesman said one if the children was admitted into intensive care. The children range in age from 12 to 19.
