Update on My Husband's burns

#1 Postby DaylilyDawn » Mon Jan 24, 2005 4:49 pm

Today my husband went to see the Dr at the Rehab Clinic at the Burn Unit at Tampa General Hospital. The Dr. said she was pleased that my hubby is keeping his hands greased up with the body butter we are using. She also said that he must wear gloves over the pressure gloves to keep out the UV rays when he is outside. She also released him to go back to work on full duties.! He goes back in April to see her again and in Sept he will see a burn surgeon to evaluate the scar tissue in between his first two fingers on both hands. It seems to be interferring with him being able to spread his fingers wide apart. Good news today indeed.

Daylily, how nice it is to hear of good news.

My first job at age 16 was working in a hospital. I remember to this day the sadness I felt for a small girl of about six who had been burned terribly in an accident. I wonder even now, more than 40 years later, how her life may have turned out.

It is wonderful to hear of you and your husband's progress. It is surely not anything you would ever wish on anyone. It is difficult indeed to deal with the emotional and physical limitations.

Still, here in Phoenix there is a wonderful story of human resilience and human spirit that comes from the heart and soul of a police officer, Jason Schacterle, who was burned and disfigured terribly while trapped in his squad car.

Today he is back to work, tends to his loving family, and has a website and mission in life to help others who must deal with the lasting effects of burns. You may want to check out his website...the photos are hard to take, but the message that he share is wonderful.

Perhaps you or your husband might send him a note. Sometimes just seeing the circumstances of others less fortunate keeps life in the right perspective.

Stay with it you two!

Here's the website I refer to: http://www.officerjason.com/

I am glad that your husband is doing better and will be return to work. I know that will be a relief to him and his own well being, to get back to the work force.

Azskyman, that article and web page really spooks me. My husband is a Deputy Sheriff and has been for 31 years and has always and still is driving a Crown Victoria as are the entire Sheriffs Department in this County and I would say most of South Mississippi. I will be sure and mention this to him. It seems as thought he said something a long time ago about their not being safe. I know that he was waiting in a left turn lane to turn left and a stupid man talking on his cell phone to his wife about what to get for supper, not paying attention ran smack into the front of the car. My daughter was with him and thank God no one was hurt, but the car was totalled. I am so glad that it was a front end and not a rear end collision. Just the thought..........
