Breaking news: 737 slides off snowy runway at CGV...

#1 Postby Miss Mary » Thu Feb 03, 2005 9:02 am

Local TV stations are reporting a 737 slid off a runway at the Greater Cincinnati Airport/CVG. No injuries reported as yet. As soon as I can find a news link for this story, I'll post it.

Sounds as if passengers were okay and this isn't a concern. If it is, I'll post more.

Mary,

If I recall...one time my Dad was flying out of the Greater Cincinnati Airport/ CVG when we lived in Ohio...and his plane and some others got delayed because of one that slid off the runway, too, due to snow or rain.

Glad to hear that everyone on board is okay! :)

Yeah me too! This snowfall was supposed to be less than 1 inch. It's turned into a 4 inch, wet sloppy snowfall. Again, local mets were wrong! Many schools were suddenly delaying start times, cancelling morning programs or a few closing out right. Changes coming in by the minute. I'm sure the airport paid attention to the original forecast also - an inch, no big deal....this isn't a huge storm by any stretch of the means, not like the pre-xmas storm, but it is more snowfall than we thought we were getting.

This is the third time all local mets were wrong, this current winter. I told my family I am beginning to lose faith in Meteologoists - did you hear the collective gasp here at S2K? LOL They all said - it's about time Mary/Mom!!!! They ask ME what the forecast is usually.....even current temps, while the new digital wx station is sitting mere feet from them.

Something tells me they won't be asking me for forecasts in the future!

Good news Mary that nothing more than a scare happened there.

I'm glad that noone was hurt.

I flew into CVG one time on a trip out to see my Dad. I was surprised that it is actually in Kentucky!

Yep, they ran out of space in Hamilton County, Ohio for a major airport...seems it should be called North-Central Kentucky Int'l. Airport or something instead.

Only 30 passengers on a 737-800? Delta needs to start filling those seats!

I think a lot of people are surprised our airport is in Kentucky. My dad used to say it was b/c Cincinnatians fought for it to be built elsewhere...they didn't want planes going over their homes in Hamilton County. All I know is it is confusing to newcomers. And I heard the CVG is an abbreviation for Covington, Kentucky, which is NOT where the airport is located! It's actually in Hebron, Kentucky...I think. Jeremy would know for certain...he doesn't live far from CVG. Probably a 15 minute drive, if that. But to get back to Covington....I think there's a wx station there, a main one. Someone tried explaining to me once that's why the airport is called CVG...as if an airport has something to do with wx. Yes airports have to check wx reports 24/7 but local mets do not broadcast out of the airport....all of this is very confusing!

Yep. The airport is in Hebron. I am about 10 minutes from it, and right under its flight path. *He says as an airplane flies directly overhead*

I can remember flying into CVG this summer on my way to SYR. I was looking forward to seeing what Ohio was like, even if it was only the airport. However, when the FA said, "Welcome to Cincinnatti/Northern Kentucky International Airport," I was more than a little bit surprised!

Great thing was that my routing was CAI-MAD-JFK-CVG-SYR. In order to get to SYR from JFK, I had to fly 2 hours west to CVG and then an hour and a half east to SYR. To add insult to injury, our flight path on the JFK-CVG flight took us right over Syracuse!
