Burglar steals Dallas PD officer's uniform, gun

DALLAS, Texas - Somebody could be out there posing as a Dallas police officer.
Early Sunday morning, a burglar broke into a police officer's personal truck while it was parked outside a nightclub on McKinney Avenue.
"At the time, the articles inside his truck were stolen," said department spokesperson Jamie Kimbrough. "His uniform and his belt (were taken), which means a full uniform and badge and his utility belt."
According to a police report, the suspect pried open the truck's door, took the property and then tried to cover the tracks.
"The interior was set on fire," Kimbrough said.
Dallas police officials said they are concerned because the burglar took not only the officer's uniform, but also his service revolver, handcuffs, mace, bulletproof vest and baton - everything someone needs to impersonate an officer.
"Of course we are extremely concerned about that, because we want that back in our possession," Kimbrough said. "We don't want it to be used by someone else."
It is against department guidelines for an officer to leave a uniform in a vehicle where it can be seen. The department is investigating whether or not the officer broke the rules.
Authorities said they don't know if the officer was targeted, or if the burglar simply saw the uniform and took it. Either way, officials said they need to find it.
