Such a waste

#1 Postby azsnowman » Mon May 02, 2005 6:48 am

I spent the biggest part of the weekend working a crime scene, as an officer and working my internship as a Crime Scene Investigator for my classes........it was by FAR the worst car accident ANYONE, even seasoned officers with 20+ years in law enforcement, has ever seen. It was a fatal car accident times 2, the cause? DRUNK DRIVERS, JUVENILES NO LESS :grr: 5 KIDS (16-18 years old) left a party were booze and DRUGS were readily available, they left the party at 0130 in the morning, DRAG RACING down main street, estimated speed at the time of impact..."105" MPH in a posted 35 MPH zone. 2 people, a young couple planning on getting married in June, lost their lives. I won't go into details out of respect for the deceased but you can ONLY imagine the devestation and destruction, there was NOTHING and I do mean NOTHING left of the car.

With graduation coming up this month, just a reminder, "DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE!" Such a waste of human life

Dennis - so sorry to learn of this tragic accident. I imagine it will stay with you a long time too. We have accidents occur like this from time to time in our community. When it's alcohol related, it's so tragic - b/c it could have been prevented. I get so upset with adults giving minors free access to alcohol. Wonder if they'll be proscecuted?

We lost a nephew at age 16 in a car accident, 2 years ago. While going joy riding/hill hopping (what they call it nowadays) with friends. Saturday morning, going to a band concert in which all 4 would participate. NO alcohol involved, just a young, inexperienced driver, in an SUV. Losing a teenager is just something you never quite get over. You just have to come to terms with their loss. They're always with you, in spirit, memories, thoughts, conversations but it's not at all the same.

My prayers go out to that young couple's families.

Oh Dennis, I'm sorry you had to go thru that. What a waste. Some people just don't realize that their reckless actions can not only take the lives of others but also ruin the lives of family, friends and people that they don't even know. It's not just kids either. Some adults have the same mentality.

I really think whomever supplied the alcohol should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

((Hugs)) to you my friend. I know your compassion was so helpful at that accident site and your faith in God will help you mend.

Well said Karan. God often will place his people in the right place at the right time.

I pray that this will be a big wake-up call to some parents of yung'uns and to the kids themselves!

this happens in our small community at least once or twice a year. what makes me so mad is the kids are always coming from someones home that has allowed the drinking to go on. you would hope they all would have learned after the first senseless death. just a month ago we had a 19 yr old killed and his passenger was critically injured.

Formal charges have yet to be filed, the driver's still in ICU, once he's released, the charges will be filed and it's NOT looking good for the *kid*!!

Our big problem down here is that the kids go into Agua Prieta MX across from Douglas to booze it up and then try to navigate the trip bad from Douglas to SV (60 miles). They usually lose in the hilly section of road just east of Bisbee. From time to time (usually on Prom and Graduation nights) the local Poice get together and set up checkpoints at the Border crossing (unlike Illegals, Drunken teens don't know how to avoid Border Checkpoints). Those caught driving drunk are thrown in the Drunk Tank in Douglas to sober up and are charged with DUI while the rest are cited for underage drinking and Curfew Violation and held in the Douglas City Jail until their Parents come and pick them up. That's the good part of the whole deal because even though SV Police are there, they still put SV teens in the Douglas Jail-imagine how grouchy the Parent is who gets called in SV at 2 AM to drive the 60 miles to Douglas to pick up their kid who's tanked up and also in violation of curfew-I imagine that the teenager gets a total earful (my son would have gotten much worse if he had done that which he did not). They have Project Graduation here as well and it's been a big success.

That poor couple! That is so sad. :(

Scenes like those must take alot out of you. You have to be a special type of person to be able to handle that stuff day after day.
