I prefer the Northern type of BBQ myself...having been raised in Ohio. :)

BTW...Peeps actually enjoy 'fully-dressed' dogs with cole slaw (more like soggy dogs lol) here in NC.

BBQ to me means hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken, steak, ribs - ALMOST ANYTHING!

Of course you need the pickles, cole slaw, potato and macaroni salads, fruit salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, pasta salad, fruit salad and oh, did I mention SALAD??

I like my hotdogs with mustard, pickles and baked beans and Pepcid AC.

You haven't lived until you've had good ole BBQ straight from the Deep South!

Oh My God.... it's making me want to go get some right now. There's a WONDERFUL BBQ joint only a 2-minute drive from here. 8-)

Barbecue, for me, starts and ends with MAULL'S B-B-Q Sauce, in any of its varieties.

"Don't baste your barbecue...MAULL it!" (a St. Louis made product)

Well, let's see...in our house, a normal topping on our food might be a dog hair. Does that qualify? LOL

I try and try and dehair this house and of course the kitchen. And her hair just drifts thru the air. Part of owning a Golden Retriever....you feel bad when she gives you those sad eyes, as if to say it's not my fault! And yes we brush her too.

This was a comical thread Helen. Since we're discussing regional meanings of BBQ, I think of shredded beef or pork, simmered in a tangy, sweet BBQ sauce. Mounded on a bun, topped with cole slaw. We vacationed in North Carolina last summer. At our rental condo complex, they had a family cookout night. Pulled pork was one option. No sauce. We found that a little odd. You could squirt a topping on it from a bottle, similar to catsup. But it wasn't catsup. And in the end, we just missed our Ohio type BBQ too Eric.

Here in my neck of the woods one does not deface exquisitely smoked brisket, ribs, chicken or wild game with sauce. It should be able to stand on its own with whatever it was marinated in and/or rubbed with.

And Mary - I've got the same dilemma as you. "Yes, the dog hair is the secret ingredient!"

YUMMY, you guys make me want to order lunch at 9:00a.m. I love barbecued anything. I prefer a spicy barbecue sauce more than the dry rub although I love to use the dry rub while cooking and then slather on the sauce at the end. It needs to have a little bite to it too.

Ribs!!!!! I love babyback ribs!!!! Stephanie can I come to your picnic?? Potato salad and homemade baked beans-grrrrrrrrr- oops that was my stomach growling. And that cole slaw has got to be creamy and not sour.

Mary and Jen, I have a few cat hairs floating around my home. I think they do add that special something to a dish!!!!!!!!lol My dog doesn't shed so that's great.

Nobody mentioned beer - I'll bring some Corona and limes.
